Took the long way back home from Tahoe with the family yesterday, had to stop off at this roadside gem to explore with a wider lens (and upgraded camera) than I had last year. It was flowing really well, and required utilizing the heater in the car to get the feeling back in my toes;-) Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!

Another from my most recent trip to Mossbrae Falls. The river was low enough to get out on some of the rocks below (and just before) the bridge. I stood up on a large rock to get this perspective.

It is tough to find new comps here, and I felt that this was on the more unique side based on what I have seen out there. I hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!

Just pushing the limits of the new camera....took this without any grad ND, crazy how much detail you can pull back into the shadows and highlights. Not technically perfect, and some definite fringing if you go in 100%, but I liked the comp and plan to return to this spot on Tenaya Creek. My plan was to hit mirror lake for the glow on half dome but I missed the window by about 5 minutes. This was me trying to find the best comp while the glow faded. Hope you enjoy!

Last week I headed up to Lassen after work in the north valley to check out some new waterfalls and explore Lassen some more. Big shout to Leon Turnbull for providing directions to places like this @ waterfallswest.com! This is one of the falls/cascades on the West Fork Hat Creek. There was still some significant snow on the trail and along all of the cascades to add some interest.

It was an interesting evening in Lassen...as I was hiking back to the car the earthquake in Greenville (not too far away) hit! I really want to spend some more time in Lassen...it is such an under-utilized park. The past few times I was up there, I felt as if I was the only human for 25+ miles. Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!
Mossbrae Falls-Shine

I had an opportunity to hit Mossbrae Falls again last week...I just had to go back to see the fresh/lush greens and it was sooooo worth it. I drug my buddy from Redding out and we drove up the 5 at the crack of dawn to give ourselves time to see/photograph the falls in the shade.

In other news, I ditched the D600...not just because the dust/oil issue. The deal breaker for me was the tiny plastic eye piece cover that you have to use for LE work (particularly with darker ND's like the 10 stopper). Awesome camera, but that kind of tipped me over to the 800...and wow, what a camera. The detail and DR are off the charts! Not looking forward to working with the large files (especially when focus stacking and blending), but I guess that is more reason to take fewer shots and slow down;-)

I got right down to river level on this one....really like the shine on those rocks. Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!

Here is another coastal shot from Sunset Cliffs. I know the color may seem extreme, but I was trying to go for a dreamier painting like feel on this one. The light was very interesting as the bank of fog sat off the coast and diffused the light. Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!

Here is another coastal shot from Sunset Cliffs. I know the color may seem extreme, but I was trying to go for a dreamier painting like feel on this one. The light was very interesting as the bank of fog sat off the coast and diffused the light. Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!

At this point these wildflowers are probably toasted and it is time to move to the higher elevations or out to the ocean for some good summer shooting. One of my favorite elements of the spring is how close great locations such as this one can be to home. I really had to pull the highlights back on this one, and actually cropped this vertical section from the wide shot. Not the cleanest sunstar, but worth sharing IMO. It is truly Amazing how much resolution you have to work with using these modern sensors! Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!

Riverfront

A-scape posted a photo:

As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been spending some serious time preparing for this 2 month show that I was accepted to at Riverfront Art Gallery in Petaluma. Riverfront is an Artist Collaborative, featuring a wide range of Art, mostly emphasizing in photography. This is my half space without the lighting fully adjusted. I have 4 canvases, and 2 framed prints featured on the wall. I also have a print rack holding several 8x12 (12x16 total size), and 12x18 /(18x24 total size) matted prints. I took this with my point and shoot (did not have the DSLR with me), so the color and everything else is way off...but you can get the idea of the setup at least.

Regardless if I move much inventory or not, this has been an awesome learning experience from so many different angles. From archival matting, to signing, to framing, to inventory control/pricing, etc.....it is a ton of work, with many good lessons learned along the way!

If you are in the area, stop into Riverfront! It right in the heart of downtown Petaluma @ 132 Petaluma Blvd N Petaluma, CA.

On the walk back to the car after shooting a sunset at Table Mountain, I noticed that the clouds were moving swiftly and breaking up fast. This tree is a real landmark at Table Mountain, one I typically use to guage where I am at in relation to the parking lot when hiking cross country (no real trails here). It is massive, stands by itself, and I have always wanted to shoot it but the conditions have never been right. Something different...hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!

Exciting and stressful times for sure. This is a shot I took after Ben and I captured the Lupine Fields at Folsom Lake. I really like the tonal range in this image.
I took my son for his first hike a few weekends ago, and we headed for Bassi Falls (the road was locked off so it made it more of a hike than it typically is). Crazy that the waterfall is probably already past peak, and there was no snow to be seen! It was a beautiful day, and the flow was awesome to see. Not the best light, but we did have some nice clouds moving above. Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!

The first light of the day strikes a fog bank off the coast of Sunset Cliffs Park in San Diego. The seascape conditions were not spectacular during our trip to San Diego last week, but we did catch some good soft light during this morning. Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!

Seascape conditions were not favorable, but I was able to come away with some city shots that I liked. This is a 3 image pano, stitched in CS6.

Spur of the moment decision to take a detour to Table Mountain as a small weather system moved through the area. I know this shot probably has some better possibilities cropped, but I wanted to share the whole frame and actually like the sunburst centered. Why are there cows on Table Mountain? How it OK that they crap all over the landscape and eat all the wildflowers? Maybe they fertilize...but I can only imagine how this place would look without cattle grazing. Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!
