This shot is from sunrise at bogey hole. I reall wanted to get low on this shot to maximize the reflections. Although there is not one focal point, the chains are really intricate and amazing especially in the film shot which is very yellow and purple because of the way the white balance on the film. Still like it here though - can't wait to get the film scanned

Sunrise at Nobbys Lighthouse

This is my first shot uploaded on my linhof technorama 617iiis on fujichrome velvia. It is beautiful. When I first got the photos I thought id made a huge mistake, because I they didn't come up perfect... too dark or some minor problem with the lens, and it has taken me months to get them processed.
I woke up one morning determined to get a shot of nobbys. I don't like nobbys beach because there are so many photos of it but I really wanted to get the rocks in the corner of nobbys beach to balance out the lighthouse and create some sense of symmetry. There was a lot of wave action, and unfortunately, the camera has been knocked just slightly over a 30 second to 2 minute exposure, and so there are some minor distortions in the massive picture (you can see it in the lights - they are slightly elongated). I'm not sure if this adds to the dream like quality of the water and the sun. The colour is incredible. No saturation or vibrance editing, but a little contrast and luminance...

This was an amazing day in Noosa. Strong southerly meant offshore winds and no surf along the point. This has had no saturation or vibrance edits - that's what the water actually looked like. Would have loved to got a bigger picture with the linhof but there were too many people out.

Shipwrecks are awesome. This is a great shipwreck but it is also on a really busy beach - you can't get a shot of this place without someone walking through it as you can see the footprints. If only this place was higher tide when I visited, I think it would have looked amazing with water running through it, despite no colour in the clouds.
The sun direction just wasn't good for this shot while I was here - I think i'll have to wait until winter although I'll probably never visit the sunshine coast at this time.
I've got a bit of pressure to make all my shots into explore now. In my last 5 photos, 3 have made explore, making a difference between 100 views to 1000 views in a day. I really want to see what shots are popular, and explore isn't always the best indicator.

This is a generic shoreline from norah head, with the lighthouse in the distance. I really like using grad filters - i like how it is an almost perfect exposure without much digital manipulcaiton. Love it

I just wanted to experiment with cropping the top half the sky and having most of the reflections as the focal point. I'm not sure if it works super well with this photo - i think there is no real good focal point... though i do like the idea that the posts and chains are floating in the air.
I might experiment more with this sort of framing

This is a personal favourite from a little gazebo thing at nobbys beach in newcastle. This was the most intense thunderstorm i've ever been in, with massive lightning striking the lighthouse and all around. This was a shot as the storm was going out to sea, and i think there are 6 lightning strikes in this picture within 30 seconds. Wish i could see some of the strikes a little better - give me another reason to go :p
This was last year, but thought i would reupload it to see what people thought of it.

I headed back to this location, under the waterfall yesterday afternoon. I took my linhof this time to get a massive panoramia shot of these falls, which will be similar to this... just on film. I love this pace, but i don't think it nailed it yet. It's a little overexposed under the main water fall, and i probably should have gone when it was raining, just to make the background colours a little more saturated. This is an amazing place, the pools in front of me were reflecting the water falling, but im trying to keep my shots simpler, with one main focus point, so here it is.

I thought there would be a lot more colour in the sunset, but it was a good test for one of the first shots i've used with a grad filter, and i think i like them. I thought it might add more colour to the bottom half of the picture but i guess i still need good conditions to make the most of them. I think i need to just keep taking photos for the experimentaion of new angles and techniques, rather than just waiting for amazing locations/conditions and photographing them.

This was a shot of the amazing sunset tonight, just from the other directions and getting the moon rising aswell. I wish this shot had a bit more colour and the water was a bit stiller, but it'll give me a reason to head back :p

This was a shot from a waterfall in Samoa, on Upolu. It wasn't the most photogenic waterfall shot, but i really liked the little yellow leaves that were bobbing and swirling in front of this waterfall. I like the reflections of the waterfall too... I still like experimenting with waterfalls, hopefully it'll pay off

This was a shot from one of my facourite beaches in Samoa. We took a 30 minute 4WD ride down to a perfect and isolated black sand beach. We saw one person here this day, a local fisherman in the distance. The weather, water, coconut trees and snorkelling were perfect this day.

This was a shot from the lookout on the island of Upolu. For some reason or another, I didn't find Samoa particularly photogenic - it was a bit too hard to get something that wasn't cliche. It was also a bit too hard to get a pure white sand beach with bent coconut tree.
I do like this shot though. We were driving in the back of the ute, through the crisp mountain air, clouds moving slowly through the trees and moss growing on the power poles. I think this shot will remind me of this awesome day.
