Rushing through Orlando post-rain rush hour traffic nightmares and Disney's many LONG stop lights, I thankfully made it here before the sun fully set. I was rewarded to a sky that went from dark grey to light blue as the clouds opened up, to orange pink and purple as the sun started retreating. This was an evening of crazy colors.

Like I mentioned in my previous post, I'm taking a short experimental break from Flickr (and FB). The rest of the photos in this series will be posted on my Google + OHYEAPHOTO page. Please check them out over there, and if you are on G+ make sure to CIRCLE me in order to get all of my photography on a timely basis!
OH BOY! (Christmas @ Epcot)

(Since I do not have any AWESOME holiday shots from last year, I figured I'd post two lessthanawesome shots.)

Here is mickey, in all of his christmas topiary goodiness!

Side note: Bouyed by my recent heyletscirclethehelloutofeveryonebutnotactuallyinteract issues with Google+, I am going to be taking quite a few people off of my "view" list on here. While I understand that some people are busy, and especially those that might have 1000+ friends (trust me, I more than understand, I have a small amount of friends on here I truly follow and even that is hard to keep up with), I get really annoyed at those that post on here and do no interact with me even though I interact with them frequently.

That, my friends, is the point of social networking. I had hoped with the more "close relations" structured nature of FB, we'd be moving onto a better, more interactive style of interneting. Boy, was I wrong. True, there are many different types of people on here, and not everyone cares about interacting. They might just want to share photos.

That's fine. What I am doing is not out of anger, even though I do have some anger towards the more "Rockstar" photgrapher types on here (we ALL know who I am talking about). They get no pity from me, and are the antithesis of having a nice friendly community. But such is life...people form cliques and like to feel like they are better than others.

I, on the other hand, like sharing and being friendly with people. And I hope you all do too =]
.
.
.
P.S. Happy Holidays! I did my tree last night, and my village will hopefully go up today! Pics to come soon

I love The Living Seas. Sure, I loved it 100% more before the Nemo redo, but it has come to grow on me. I do miss those hydrolators....haha.

I also love jellyfish.

This was shot in the waiting room for Turtle Talk With Crush. I've seen the show once, it was pretty cool. But I don't really think I'll get going back in there again anytime soon. I do, however, make it a point to stop by the waiting area because of the sweet jellyfish tanks!

And here we are. With a Friday afternoon PARTNERS shot. I think it's the first I've posted. I love the drops, and the tones. What do you love? or hate? =]

Tempting, time is... (Spaceship Earth, EPCOT)

ohhector posted a photo:

Another lovely shot from my "post illuminations lets hang out and shoot photos" shoot with Uncle Greg. During the day I find this shot to be quite boring. Even if I were to have an empty park or some nice dark ND filters to make them disappear...it's just not something that I really find to be interesting, photographically.

What's been done, has been done.

This, however, was an exception. Having been inspired by Gregs 8+ shot HDR's he was shooting with, I decided to try the same. I usually do the standard 3 since I am usually tripodless, and honestly a lot of my HDR stuff ends up being hdr from a single raw. I had tried doing the more-than-three shot HDRs a try a few times but they never seemed to work for me.

Well, they worked a little better on this trip, and this is one of my favorite shots. It's very eerie yet magical at the same time. I love blue and I think it really fits the mood here. Also, I like that the moon does a good job of balancing the off-balance introduced by the extra foliage on the left!

What do YOU think?

The sunset this evening was pretty intense...I was trying to have a nice casual, shooting-free evening since I was with my best friend and Disney buddy...but I had to bring out the camera for this shot.

As we kept walking, the colors kept getting more and more intense. I snapped a shot here or there, but nothing worthwhile. Then it finally clicked in me....GET YOUR ASS TO SPACESHIP EARTH RIGHT THE HELL NOW. So I told my friend I'd meet her up there and RAN like I've never run at Epcot.

Out of breath, pain in my side, I finally got to SSE....a minute too late. I snapped a few, and they are alright, but my hesitation really cost me. Alas.

That's what I get for trying to get out of my photographers mentality for the evening! Haha

It's just as well, because I love how this one came out. The "rorschach test" feel is something i always strive for in these Epcot lagoon wide shots, but it doesn't ever work out in an interesting enough manner for me....til now!

Monorail Monday 7.0!

I was walking back to my car and decided to take one of the paths that I VERY rarely take. It's the one that goes from the Odyssey building over to the straight behind Spaceship Earth that leads to the middle of World Showcase. I had just shot a few tripod'd sunset shots, and was just taking a nice stroll.

My camera had been set up on the tripod still, and I had attempted a shot with a lamp and the walkway, but it didn't work out so well. I started walking with the tripod when I heard the family sounds of the approaching monorail. I ran forward, spread the tripod legs, and then shot this shot.

Good times

40th Anniversary of Magic Kingdom...the celebrations themselves I felt were very lackluster...I mean, seriously, why does every other year get a fancy helicopter crowd shot, and we don't? That's why I woke up at 6am!

Haha...but the minimal celebrations aside, I had a wonderful time. I met a whole lot of people...some of which I already interact with on here, and some who I had just admired from afar (their photography, at any rate). I made some new wonderful friendships, and was able to escape out of my solo-photog bubble for a little while.

I had already done some tandem shooting with Kristin W a few weeks before, and that went well enough. See, anytime in the past I've tried to go shooting with someone...well, it just turns into a fiasco. So I never bother. But with Kristin it forced me to stop depending on on occasional great photo, and actually focus on thinking about it. I'm not sure how well that works for me...haha...but it was definitely an interesting departure.

The evening of this photo, I stayed behind at EPCOT after the fireworks with Mr. Uncle Greg. Again, it forced me to think about my photography, and also granted me a degree of patience and bravery (I don't think I would have ever crossed a rope at WDW after closing by myself! haha) that I do not usually exhibit.

Seeing as though it's been raining non stop for the last week or two in South Florida, I thought this shot would be appropriate to post.

I didn't name this set "Walt Rainy World" for nothing, it spent most of our trip there raining. Two of the days were nonstop morning to evening. Two of the days had a few moments of rainlessness. And then the last day was nothing but pure unadulterated sun.

I didn't name this set "Walt Rainy World" for nothing, it spent most of our trip there raining. Two of the days were nonstop morning to evening. Two of the days had a few moments of rainlessness. And then the last day was nothing but pure unadulterated sun.

(Lego Store, Downtown Disney)" />

I remember when downtown Disney was just that east area...and it was called Walt Disney World Village (well, Disney Village is what I remember)....and then Pleasure Island came along, and provided a cool experience for adults (or minors accompanied by adults). It became the Disney Village Marketplace. Then came the West side and it was renamed yet again Downtown Disney Marketplace.

Yadda yadda.

I loved the Village. Pleasure Island was lost to me, as my parent's never really did more than walk through the area. And the west side has had it's ups and downs. But overall this place always has had a weird vibe to it...no real vibe, that is. Even with the cool remodels of the PI area, it just feels like it has no life most of the time. Maybe that's the point of all the current redos....although to be honest, I am not a fan of how it is just turning into another bland shopping mall.

We shall see! Hyperion Warf project seems to be dead. But at least the LEGO store still rocks!

This was shot on the ONE time I went to the parks this year that it wasn't obnoxiously packed. I mean, seriously! I love that Disney's getting business and money and hopefully thatll translate into some improvements and new things...but I sure do love a sparsely populated park now and then.

ANYWAY...I'm not a huge fireworks fan...I think 95% of them are insanely boring and bland...my own included haha. I've finally taken to actually using a tripod and learning to shoot them...but honestly I think that is more in preparations for a moment where I might get a chance to actually take an amazing fireworks shot....not so much that I plan on shooting many in the future.

This shot above, has the one key element that I love about a good fireworks shot....that the shot is NOT about the fireworks! It's in line with how I feel about HDR...any shot that is presented with HDR as the subject rather than the composition or actual physical subject matter...is worthless. To me, shooting a fireworks shot that has nothing else going for it, is just an exercise in technicalities. Sure, you know how to expose properly, but where is the feeling? Where is the character and the uniqueness of the shot?

Above, I found a nice scene that I had already shot before but found a bit lacking...but the firework ended up being that missing piece, and it all comes together now! I think, anyway ;)

Believe or not, this is very minimally processed....just added a dash of pink to complement the extreme and overbearing yellow of the original shot.

This was taken early in the morning of that 40th annivesary of the Magic Kingdom. I got there around 7, way before most of the Flickrites...although not before anyone else, there were already a good amount of people in line (not even counting the masses that got there at like 4am to get merch wristbands).

The sun was still coming up, and making really intense shows on the scenery, so I managed to capture some great interplay between it, the contemporary, and the monorail

Halloween)" />

Sorry folks, but I do not like Halloween.

Why? Well a good chunk of halloween for most of the people I know is dressing up and going to parties. a) I hate parties b) I hate dressing up! And not to mention that, but just the thought of dressing up brings massive anxieties to me...because if i were, it would have to be an amazing costume and I don't have the patience or money to go through that process lol.

But I will say, seeing Main ST at Magic Kingdom decked out the way that it was this year for Halloween, sorta made me wish I liked it more. I definitely can go for the decorating aspect of it...esp since last year I found out some people make Halloween villages as well as the standard christmas ones.

Either way, I hope everyone had a great day today...whether they celebrate or not!

I will never forget the wonder of seeing the Dinosaurs in Jurassic Park for the first time, on the big screen. At the time, the effects they used were so realistic that my 13 year old self could not believe that the dinos in the movie WEREN'T real. Hell, to this day that cgi stands up to the test of time.

Jurassic Park, was just released to Blu-ray this week. I bought it, and shall be watching it this weekend hopefully!

With that said, Chester and Hester's Dinorama is a favorite area of mine. True, I never really play the arcade games. But the theming is great, and anything involving dinos is ok with me.

Mickey's Birthdayland, 1988

ohhector posted a photo:

As many of you know, Toontown officially closed earlier this year.

But, what some of you might not know is that before Toontown, it was called Mickey's Starland. And if you did know that, you might not know that before THAT it was called Mickey's Birthdayland.

This photo was shot maybe a week after it opened. My mom was pregnant with my brother. And as you can see, the area was WAY cooler than it had been in the last few years. There were mini storefronts, as well as mini houses (Not just MINNIE houses). It was a great place to visit, esp as a child because it more clearly expressed the whole "town" feel that Main St tries to accomplish, but is usually lost on younger children. If it still looked like that now, I would make it a point to visit every time I was in MK. But unfortunately due to the real lack of anything compelling, I very rarely made it through that area.

(I am doing my mom what I feel to be a fitting tribute by no cancelling a mini trip I had to WDW this weekend. Part of the reason I love going to the parks so much is how many amazing memories of my childhood being at the parks brings back, so I figured there's no better way to celebrate her life by partaking in something that we both loved. If anyone is going to be around, let me know!)
