Of a dream

A dream I had when I was younger, in which nothing made even the least bit of sense. I remember that I was stumbling through a large field in the early morning, my shoes becoming saturated with early morning dew, and birds all around me chirping their greetings to the new day. I remember seeing a small pond in the distance, with waves of mist rolling gently from the smooth, glass surface. I remember when I finally reached the lake and the ground squished under me from recent rain, and how the air was crisp and still untainted by a long day's frustration. And then, I remember how I was was tip-toeing along the very edge of the water whilst in a daze, when suddenly the water's unwrinkled face faltered. Ripples shot across the surface like fireworks, and when I glanced up I could see the daunting shape of a rather large swan making its wary way towards me. For some reason I wasn't surprised or unnerved by the size of the swan or its peculiar anatomy (a portion of the swan had been folded from paper to form its fragile body, but its neck and head were both very real) as it actually served to reassure me that I had to be in a dream. I think that I was about to speak to it, perhaps to introduce myself or simply to wish it "hello", but then, with a start, I woke up.

A NOTE---PLEASE VIEW LARGE IT LOOKS LIKE CRAP SMALL OKAY? PLEASE? PLEASE!.

I'm sorry I've been absent from flickr lately....I promise that I've taken countless pictures recently but unfortunately they have all been dreadful, drastic, depressing failures.

On a lighter note I'd like to wish you a wonderful morning/afternoon/night, and may the photography gods be ever in your favor.

I see a world from behind these dark and treacherous walls. A world of greatness. For years I have been trapped by these cold stones, and haunted by the unreachable sounds of life outside. But I have found an escape...and now the wind blows around me and the light fills me with warmth, and I am free.

Taken at Tretower castle in Wales. It was absolutely magical climbing around the holes in the old walls and into little nooks and up as high as you could go into the tower without the restrictions of safety precautions or railings. It was cold sure, but I suppose that was more to do with the fact that I was barefoot and in a skirt with howling wind blowing ferociously all about.

I absolutely adored taking pictures of these stairs...however that is as far as the love extended... climbing them was horrible.

This past weekend I went to a family reunion in Illinois...and directly across the street from where I was staying was Starved Rock State Park. I spent hours upon hours hiking there; and it was an absolutely fantastic place. I went late in the afternoon on Friday, when only a few people were there...early in the morning (8:00) on Saturday where we hiked three miles and saw very very few people...and even earlier sunday morning, where we didn't see a soul.
Those were the times that I live for- when I can hike through the green lush forests, climb around canyons, explore vast crevices, throw my arms wide and absorb the overwhelming height and scenery after climbing hundreds of stairs.
I accepted long ago that life can be ugly and cruel, but every now and then I'm reminded that it has the potential to be beautiful.
