Another foray - this time on foot to edge off the Blue Ridge, in Shenandoah Nat'l Park. Little Devil's Stairs, aptly named. Thanks to the recent rains, the streams were flowing. Wish the camera had been at the ready when we spotted a black bear on the descent!

November light, looking west toward Massanutten range. Couldn't manage a fix for the blown out sun, but the filtered light and crepuscular rays shining on the valley floor was not to ignore. I was longing to stay for the completion of this sunset- but this was not to be.

What's not to love about the eastern deciduous forest? Mix together maple, hickory, oak and beech. Throw in a bit of evergreen - wihite pine, cedar and juniper. Add a sprinkling of clouds and treat yourself to a visual feast.

The storms that created havoc in the south dumped 5" of rain on Shenandoah Nat'l Park. An attempt to hike up Whiteoak Canyon was aborted by crazy, high water stream (deluge) crossings. Easier to deal with more gentle water flows like this.

A brief respite between storms in the Shenandoah Valley. The distant rain arrived about 10 minutes later. I snuck away from "work" to catch this shot. I was joined by my Flickr friend and colleague, Matt.
