The temples of Bagan is quite possibly one of the most amazing archeological sites in the world. There are over 4400 temples that remain and one can spend weeks exploring them.

Bagan, formerly Pagan, is an ancient city in Burma. Formally titled Arimaddanapura or Arimaddana (the City of the Enemy Crusher) and also known as Tambadipa (the Land of Copper) or Tassadessa (the Parched Land), it was the capital of several ancient kingdoms in Burma. The ruins of Bagan cover an area of 16 square miles (41 km2). The majority of its buildings were built in the 11th century to 13th century, during the time Bagan was the capital of the First Burmese Empire.

Tourists getting ready to take a "fancy dress" photo at the Basilica Cistern, which was used as a location for the 1963 James Bond film "From Russia with Love".

The Basilica Cistern (Turkish: Yerebatan Sarayı - "Sunken Palace", or Yerebatan Sarnıcı - "Sunken Cistern"), is the largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that lie beneath the city of Istanbul (formerly Constantinople), Turkey. The cistern, located 500 feet (150 m) southwest of the Hagia Sophia on the historical peninsula of Sarayburnu, was built in the 6th century during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I.

Sukhothai (สุโขทัย) was the prosperous capital of Thailand in the 13th and 14th centuries. There are 193 ruins on 70 square kilometers of land. Inside are the central area are the remains of the royal palace and twenty-six temples, the largest being Wat Mahathat.

Wat Mahathat literally means “great relic”. It is one of the oldest and most important Buddhist temples in Thailand - in fact there are several temples called Wat Mahathat. It is the largest intact set of ruins in the Sukhothai Historical Park and a sight to behold.

At night they light up most of the park which looks beautiful from a distance - but is quite difficult to shoot. Since the park closes entry at 6pm, we had to sneak back in for our night photography session. We had the whole place to ourselves, it was a crisp cool night and it was great fun revisiting to see the ruins in a different light.

Singapore's Chinatown is the traditional Chinese quarters of town. The area between Pagoda Street and Smith Street has been tarted up considerably for tourists, but workaday Chinatown continues south and east, merging seamlessly into the Central Business District. Unlike most of predominantly Hokkien Singapore, the dominant Chinese dialect in Chinatown is Cantonese.

This image is from a test shoot with the new Canon EOS 5D Mark II. There is so much more to say about this phenomenal camera but I am going to let the shooting do the talking as I start to use it :-)

The full frame advantage of taking this shot with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II? Clear even at ISO 3200 with minimal noise, even in the blacks. And, noise reduction not on either!

Shot in very low light early in the morning, with an exposure of f/5 @ 1/60 and 75mm - all these together add up to a blurry picture (which it is) but am quite pleased with how this one came out.
