Look Me in the Eye

enveehaze posted a photo:

I was challenged by rafartreides2009 in a "Rolling Get Pushed" as follows:
"either make a self portrait or portrait for my group "stand straight" read the rules first, or make a black and white picture of anything, but let's see some detail ! or you could do both or combine both of course"

Check out his great photostream here: www.flickr.com/photos/rafdegeest2009/
He does alot of self portraiture - very interesting stuff!

I have never done self portraits before except the cheesy holding the iphone backwards kind. Those never look right for some reason... Anyway - I set up the tripod and the self timer, aimed a little light in my general direction and made some faces at the camera. Afterwards I cropped them (severely) and played with the processing options in Picasa. I really am not a fan of being photographed and I dreaded doing this. However - I am very happy with the results. You can see a few other shots I took in my new selfies set - www.flickr.com/photos/enveearts/sets/72157631492205744/

with the celestial theme, I thought this also fit right in the the MSH for "Twinkle Twinkle Little Me"

52 week project - week 50 theme - selfie. That was fortuitous! Sorry I got a bit behind in posting these. The holiday has been hectic - 7 visitors staying at our house in addition to the usual 4!

52 Week Project - week theme - panorama

This was taken using the panorama function on my iPhone. I had a table at a local craft fair this morning and decided to finally do my panorama, since the whole table wouldn't fit in a standard shot. My son loves going to these craft fairs with me to help set up. That's him relaxing behind the table, looking pleased with himself.

double checking for the mosaic & discovered I never added this to the group... oops

52 week project - week 42 theme The Blur
"As photographers, we try so hard to get our images sharp. Achieve the perfect focus.

What if we stop caring this week? What if we strive to capture an image that is deliberately out of focus? Or part of it is sharp and part of it is vibrating? Someone is moving through an otherwise static scene? Or turn off auto focus and take an impressionistic landscape? As you can see, this theme is pretty open."

For the blur, I decided to see what would happen if I twisted my camera in a circular motion instead of panning up/down or side/side. The tree shots were not nearly as effective as the mum bush shots, in which I looked down from above while shooting.

52 Week Project - week 41 theme - Dutch Tilt

This was fun fro me and the kids! I had them run at me as fast as they could while I took angled pictures. I really like this one - my son was concentrating, as evidenced by his tongue sticking out! He was almost too fast, as he practically ran out of frame on this one!

In processing, I boosted the color a bit, added some zoominess and a frame.

52 Week Project - week 39 - theme "Break the Rules"

I always look through the viewfinder or screen at what I am shooting - as you are supposed to... This time I just pointed the camera in my son's general direction and snapped. Shooting from the hip - sort of. I tried it on my husband previously, but the result was ... blah. I couldn't believe how great this turned out. I couldn't have framed it better if I had tried - because I probably would not have cut out any of the hoodie for one thing. I did not crop this at all on the computer, I just adjusted the lighting a tad. I think this is destined to be a long time favorite picture of my son. His smile is real instead of the forced fakish ones I usually get from him when I say I want to take a picture!

52 week project - week 35 - theme "Low Key"

A new thing for me. Since I did Ochi for the subjewct of my high key picture last week, I decided to get her again this week. My kids helped by bringing in cat toys to keep her attention and to keep her from wandering off. I don't have any studio equipment, so this was taken in a room with the blinds closed. Light from the hall was coming in on the left. She was sitting on a dark colored chair. I did some tweeking in Picasa and changed it to black and white as well.

52 Week Project - high key theme - 34/52

I've never tried high key before - I didn't even know what it was really. So I watched some uTube videos and looked at some examples. I don't have any lighting equipment, other than the built in flash on my Sony DSLR, so I shined some LED flashlights on the wall behind the cat and took a couple pictures. She didn't wait around for me to get my flash turned on, so this was without a flash even. Can you tell she wasn't thrilled to be disturbed from her nap? Anyway - I've obviously played with the light levels on the computer to make the photo really high key. The original shot wasn't too bad, but this is better, I think. I will definately try more with this technique now that I've learned a little bit about it. My kids will have to pose for me next time!
