Today would have been my grandpa's 88th birthday. Next month will mark 30 years since his death. I was too young to remember much about him, but I do recall the way he smelled...of pipe smoke (cherry and vanilla) mixed with gasoline from always working on his racecar. When he died, a lot changed within my family...difficult, heartwrenching changes that--even 30 years later--are still in play. I think about him often. My dad, Will, and I all have his eyes, his goofy sense of humor, and his gentle demeanor. I know he would have loved Will, and that they would have talked incessantly about cars :) Their could-have-been relationship is always--ALWAYS--on my mind.

So, today, I'm full of nostalgia and what-ifs...and, again, I'm reminded of how suddenly life can change, and am just so grateful for oh-so much.

Today, I'm grateful for...
~sunshine and summertime temperatures
~my sweet boy who loves giving me little kisses :)
~root beer floats
~baking homemade cookies with the wee one
~playing in the sprinkler
~early morning 6 mile runs while watching the sun rise :)
~toddler belly laughs
~'me" time on the porch with my book and some sweet tea during the kid's naptime
~books so good you stay up all night reading instead of sleeping :P
~weekend pool-side plans with the best friend
~livingroom mommy/son dance parties
~the sound of cicadas and distant thunder this evening
~strawberry pickin' tomorrow with the little guy
~my kid saying "ta-da!" today. He got that from me :)

Life is beautiful in all its simplicity...and even in its complexities :)

(this picture is a crap shot...seems I've forgotten how to shoot selfies :P I didn't check settings after Will had been playing with my camera, and everything is all off, but it's a picture! So...ta-da!)

I had a crazy-busy weekend, complete with Easter festivities with the family, an Engagement photoshoot at the most beautiful farm I've ever seen, and (of course!) the season finale of The Walking Dead. I leave this morning with my little guy to go visit Mr. and Mrs Turtle in NC....I'm excited to see them, but not so excited for the 5 hour drive with my impatient toddler boy...eeep! If I'm bald when I return home, that would be why.... :P

Y'all can't pinch me today :)

Yesterday was amazing. I took Will to a special event at a local park in the morning where he got to sit in some giant cranes, bulldozers, big rigs, and tractors. He, of course, was over the moon. After that, I headed to the park for some me time. I sat in the grass, read my book, and soaked up some delightful sunshine. I had a late-afternoon photoshoot with two lovely ladies, then met some girlfriends for a wonderful night out. I didn't get in until super, super late. Hence the reason for my lazy Sunday :P

Current shenanigans: Pizza, photo editing, and puppy snuggling :) AND The Walking Dead is on shortly. Can I get a woot woot??

~9.32 mile run (and my legs only feel a little jello-y now)
~flip flops!

~long drive with the windows down and springsteen and van halen blasting on the ipod :)

Today was so, so good. I made homemade (edible) fingerpaint, and Will and I painted a few canvases. By the time we were finished with that, we were covered in paint :) We colored and read some books until he nodded off for his afternoon nap; THEN we made homemade banana pudding. I even cooked supper and nobody died...yet :P

Tomorrow, we're going to go check out the baby sheep over at the school of agriculture on campus. I think Mr. Will is going to flip out! :)

Yesterday, my dad went out to lunch. As he was ordering his food, an elderly man slumped over a table nearby. He had stopped breathing. My dad and another gentleman administered CPR, but the man did not make it... My dad is heartbroken.
Life is so unbelievably short. Just when we start to get comfortable, we're reminded of how fragile things really are. Enjoy each moment. Even the diffidult ones, as they help us to grow. Love, laugh, get messy, make mistakes, be ridiculous....have fun. Life is much too short not to :)

Hello Spring! And 70 degree temperatures....and 50mph winds and massive thunderstorms. I do love a good thunderstorm :)

I washed my vintage dresses today and hung them up on the line to dry (I love doing that; it makes them smell like sunshine). I've got a client photoshoot this Friday, and she's going to be wearing some of these. That should be fun...and right up my alley :)

Another oldie.
I've never been one to wear much makeup, but there's something about red lipstick that can make you feel so "old hollywood"...so glamorous :)

I had a great day with Mr. Wills. We enjoyed the spring-ish temperatures by playing some t-ball in the front yard and taking the dog to the park. He's such an amazing kid.
