I played around in the code and photo editor to make a demonstration screen shot of how most of us want to see a link to collections displayed.

My other solution I can think of for now is that Sets gets renamed Organization and is a drop down to Sets of Collections.

My issue is you can't se ANY of the titles of minute details like the number of comments.

You'd have to load it for your self but this is an attempt to take a scrolling screenshot. As you can see from all the blotches and gray squares, my scrolling was faster than the website.

Yes, I am taking screen shares so people can really see the problems with ths new redesign.

If you are going to force this auto scrolling fature, don't have it cover the links to the next pages AS IT IS LOADING.

Maybe some of us know what page we want to be on. Having to wait on it to load just to force this menu further down the page is annoying.

I wonder for their testing of this new design if they have any people like my father in the test group. My father uses computers, but gets frustrated easily if they don't work.

And yes, I do have a job in a technology field where I do lots of testing. My mantra at work is if my dad can't understand it, then how am I to expect all of the users to be able to use it? And then I make a note.

On the Flickr home page, if you type a comment or reply, the text box only give you one and half lines, which makes it hard to read a reply. Also, the button moves as you type. The button should not move. It should be stationary.

You can’t read the FULL DESCRIPTION without a hover over. And what about my other pet sets? I am trying to help you by grouping them together with a link. This REALLY ruins the link I have handy for my Historical Markers collection. I have references linked in that collection to show other people where they can find more details on finding a new or old marker.

Take a look at the item labeled 5. It simply says where the photo was taken. In the old Flickr layout, it had it displayed on the map. What if someone saw this photo and wanted to visit Babyland General. Did you know it has since moved since I took this photo? By taking away the maps for those that like and uses the geomapping feature, this new layout has taken that feature from us.

Another thing I don't like is that if a friend clicks on the location (which is in black - how is anyone going to tell it's a link that way?), they get a map poppop. If I click on it, my photo get sent to the Organizr. Maybe I don't want to edit the location but just look at the map?

In this shot, I can have an excerpt display if I had one, but take a look at note 4b. Even using this URL, the site is wrong in saying I have NO PHOTOS!

If you go into the set, you’ll see the thumbnail is now showing all of the bunny. Why can’t it be consistent? And if you look at what I have labeled 4a, you’ll see that I have images and nothing else. Maybe I have a story with that photo? This new desgn robs us of our voice. How do you get that voice back?

The box labeled 3 shows an example of what Flickr ruined with its new look. It is hiding the details of the photo. I chose that photo to represent that set because it’s a rabbit in Christmas lights. You could clearly tell it was a rabbit in the old layout. You can’t tell what it is now. Now how is that going to draw you in?

For issue #1, my problem is the three dots is not intuitive. I had to click around before I figured out that where the rest of the menu of options was located. I get what it means NOW - the dots are meant to be ellipses and ellipses means more, but for a user interface, make no sense. I think for this, a small down arrow would have made more sense.

Issue #2′s problem is that I do use collections. I have a collection of sets of photos taken in Georgia. I have another collection of photos just taken in Savannah. Sure, there is overlap, but for a person looking for Savannah photos, they don’t have to bother scrolling in sets or the Georgia collection on non-Savannah photos. Instead of putting collections in the drop down menu, place a link next to the Sets button. They have under emphasized collections. You have to find them under the three dots!

And where the heck is the map?

How is any one going to know where Chippewa Terrace is in Savannah? Not even most of the citizens of this are know where it is unless the live in the subdivision. But when they had the map, you could tell this was near the mall.

This is how a set looks like on the new Flickr redesign. I had to mouse over for my current description AND there is HTML markup in it. The old design displayed my entire description AND took advantage of my HTML markup.

A new design is nice when it incorporates the system a user has already put into place. This new design ignored what was already in place.

And this is why this is a #FlickrFail.

Savannah City Limits

May 19, 2013: Out where I live, the lines between city and Chatham County are odd. Most of the houses out here are in the county, but this city limit sign is in the middle of someone's yard. Is that house split between the county and the city, or is it 100% county or 100% city? The tress in the background are all in the city.

My house, along with all the others on my street, is actually in the city.

This photo was taken while I was out riding my bike.

May 18, 2013: I splurged and bought a pink bike today. It's a 7-speed Cruiser. When I got home today, I took it on a 15 minute, 2 mile bike ride.

I used to ride my bike a lot as a kid.
