It has been sitting and waiting for the right moment and inspiration to be completed for months, and now it is done. Please excuse the background in the bottom right hand corner. I couldn't get a square shot.

BC3 HOSTS RECENT WORKS BY MICHAEL JAMES WARD, THURSDAY OCTOBER 11, 6-8PM

(Butler, PA) Butler County Community College is hosting Recent Works by Michael James Ward in the Mary Hulton Phillips Gallery in the Science and Technology Building beginning Monday, October 8 through Saturday, November 3. The opening reception is on Thursday, October 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the gallery and is open to the public. Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6pm.

Michael James Ward is a student at Butler County Community College and has exhibited work in the 2005, 2006, and 2007 BC3 group exhibits. In April of 2007, he exhibited work in Lawrenceville’s Annual Art All Night and is also currently showing work in the 2007 Hoyt Institute Mid-Atlantic Juried Art Exhibit in New Castle.

16x12, Pastel on Pastel Paper. Every once in a while I get in the mood to do something a bit more traditional. I recently attended the opening reception for a Wolf Kahn pastel show, and felt the creative urge to pull my pastels out and screw around. While I am thoroughly convinced that Kahn, who is almost blind, is still one of America's top five living artists, his former student who performed a pastel demonstration was mediocre at best. I thought I could do better, and I believe I did:-)

36x48, Mixed Media on Board. When she invited me to her wedding, my good friend Mindy specifically asked for a painting of the Pittsburgh skyline. After returning from her honeymoon this evening, she called me earlier and I couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt. You see, I like it so much, I might just keep it for myself.

48x36, Mixed Media on Masonite. I am posting this with my hands still covered in oil paint, and the smell of turpentine ringing through my nostrils. A few weeks back I saw this piece in a dream, and as I woke up, I immediately grabbed a pencil and sketched it out. I guess my muse decided to pay me a visit.

14x17, Pencil on Paper(2005). Yet another blast from the past, this pencil drawn portrait was done as a tribute to the now late, great, coach of the Boston Celtics, Red Auerbach. Also shown in my first formal exhibition alongside "Another Blessed Child", it is still one of my favorite pieces to this day. Rest in peace Red.
