Ukas bilde/Photo of the week 08/2012

Riksarkivet (National Archives of Norway) posted a photo:

This week’s photo is chosen by Per Kristian Ottersland, archivist in the section for private archives:

"Herman Neupert took this photo of Miss Frida Andersen in the summer of 1910. I came across the photo accidentally, as I flipped through a folder with old photos from Oslo. Frida is beautiful, the composition is nice, the background is magnificent, the same goes for the hat and the dress – but it is still first and foremost the atmosphere in the photo that captures my interest. I choose to believe that it is the tension between Frida and the photographer that is communicated. This is of course a subjective perception, and it is possible that I might be regarded as a bad historian, but I’ll take that risk. I don’t have an additional story to add to the photo, but it might be worth mentioning that the photo is taken very close to the area where Christian Ringnes is planning his tribute to women by building a park with sculptures of women. With this photo I will beat Ringnes to it!
