www.flickr.com/photos/ennodekroon/sets/72157603483731949/

Added to theCream of the Crop pool as most interesting.

Painting on the surface of eggcrates reveals all different dynamic aspects of changing light interfering with the rich colours of real paint. That ofcourse is best experienced while seeing the object for real, that is with your own eyes.

Confronted with this painting the viewer becomes aware of his own patterns and choices in viewing. In this work this viewing experience gets mixed with the iconography of a classroom: in front of so many kids it remains impossible to see every small thing at the same time. To handle such a situation one is forced to make concious choices in positioning towards the image. From every angle one occludes other parts of the complete image. While getting the picture complete one becomes aware that memory and expectational aspects play an important role. Then while watching the characters one also gets socially involved in the image in a way...

While working on Classroom I got the feeling I got to know all characters in the painting and their social interaction. One of you already made the funny remark: "It was only while viewing the larger version of the picture that I realized this is a riot!" The whole thing certainly has got its roots in my own experience as a kid and a schoolboy. As a boy I used to be quite shy and often felt unable to position myself in a group. Then my own father was an art teacher. He seemed to be constantly involved in all kind of changes in educational systems. Being a curious kid I silently overheared his endless stories with collegues about school matters. I presume that is why quite early I wisely decided not to get involved in teaching myself... Now my own wife teaches music and my kids just started their school carreers. While bringing my kids to a marvellous school I still am happy every day that I don't have to stay there myself and that I am allowed to return to my own studio.

The lower parts of this work are mostly seen from eyeshight watching down towards the floor. For this work I mixed different interchanging perspectives: this front view is showing a kind of 'fish-eye' perspective mixed with a 'birds eye' perspective. The mixing and never really 'correct' perspectives from all angles activate the viewers curiousity and make you want to move around the image again and again.
