Justin's interest in free-diving has given him something practical to do whilst we are out there. As for me, getting used to the Aquapac is at the top of my to-do list today. Although unintentional, the distortion seen here actually works brilliantly I think, adding to the surreality of underwater photography. In this case, the optically clear plastic over the lens has not been as flat as it could have been and is the cause of the distortion.

I didn't see any myself - my cold has caused my sinuses to play up and diving down is quite painful - which is a real shame, but Justin surfaced with this little creature for just long enough to get a couple of photographs. It's novel for me since before living in Brighton I had yet to see a real life starfish in the wild! I saw one whilst swimming off of West Pier back in the summer and it must have been a good foot in length.

You can see part of Justin to the right of my head. Worthy of a profile picture! The light was perfect - really warm at around 5pm - so this had to be done! Justin was under the surface at this point and I didn't want to miss the opportunity with the light, so I modelled for it myself. He must have surfaced just as I made the picture.
