Lots of light pouring in behind me so just one on-cam strobe to fill in and add a bit of warmth (1/2 cto gel). Stepped back and zoomed in to about 24mm. Processing included lens correction/straightening, selective curves (via mask), some WB.

Opinions?

Nothing special. Lots of light from both rooms... one on-cam strobe bounced to light the foreground a touch. Processing included lens correction, selective curves blending (via mask), and masked in warming filter on the right window to remove the blue hue. In retrospect, I would have liked to brighten the room beyond with a strobe as well as the kitchen cabinets.

Opinions?

Strobist info:
- neutral gray background paper
- shoot thru brolly CL high angled down close to subject
- 36" reflector CR to bounce some of the spill from the brolly into right side
- soft box CR behind subject for subtle key
- strobe with DIY grid behind subject pointing at backdrop

Shot a handful of lawyers last week.

Strobist info:
- neutral gray background paper
- shoot thru brolly CL high angled down close to subject
- 36" reflector CR to bounce some of the spill from the brolly into right side
- soft box CR behind subject for subtle key
- strobe with DIY grid behind subject pointing at backdrop

Photoshop RAW edits include WB, highlights/shadows, and sharpening.

Two strobes. One on-cam bounced behind me into the ceiling corner; second strobe CL low pointed at bed side and night table as that whole area was dark. Slight curves adjustment in Aperture.

In retrospect, would have controlled the windows a bit more, added a strobe to the far side of the bed for v slight fill, and elevated the CL strobe pointing it down or bounding off ceiling joint.

PS work as per an awesome photographer: Duplicate layer / grey balance on the rug in the bathroom / reduce to 30%.

Brightened the original (here: www.flickr.com/photos/slippy71/5358366185/ ) using curves in Aperture. Had to mask out the curves adjustment on the door frames as it was overpowering.

Better? Too bright perhaps?

Suggestions/comments appreciated.

Finally getting the hang of using wireless strobes. This one has three--one on cam, one in the WC to the right bounced of far corner, and one in the bedroom beyond. Could have used two more: one in tub and one cam left on door in room off corner. Straight out of camera. Going for a more natural, moodier look... at least that's what I'm telling myself. :) Another version with curves applied makes it much brighter overall and cheerier.

Wanted to show the connection between spaces.

Three strobes: one on cam for the foreground, one in the WC to the right bounced off ceiling/corner joint with 1/4 cto gel, and one in the master bedroom beyond with 1/2 cto gel to balance the light.

Slight curves layer adjustment.

Selectively brighten an area of a room with Photoshop

This is what I did:

1) created new layer in PS and increased its brightness using the curves tool so that the entry area wasn't dark... I wasn't worried about the rest of the room
2) masked the layer by option clicking on the little mask icon at the base of the layers pallet (on a mac)
3) using a large brush with edges set to soft, set the color to white and opacity of brush to 10% and started painting in the entry area...
4) adjusted the opacity of the layer to a suitable point.

Ambient + 2 strobes.

One strobe OC, one bare-bulb far CL pointing at bed. The original strobed shot had too much light spillage on the bed from the direct strobe, so I masked out some of those areas. Also masked in an ambient exposure to bring some some natural light to areas that were too dark.

Although I like blending ambient in with strobes, it's just too much work. In this case I did it because I wanted it for my portfolio... but normally I wouldn't spend soo much time per photo.

36" shoot thru umbrella cameral left about 1' higher than head angle down at 45deg... flash: canon 580 on manual at about 1/16th power.... the background was just the room beyond. Post work: contrast and slight crop.

Window to the left, flash with 1/4 OTC gel OC bounced off wall CR, 70-200mm at about 150mm, f4 + photoshop editing (nothing heavy). I don't mind it... I actually like the rim light created by the window... the background was just the wall--no muslin. Shot about 40 photos before I got one with a decent expression...

Portrait pros--your thoughts please. What would further improve this as a business portrait?

In retrospect, the leaves framing are too blotchy and odd looking... too close to lens.

(actually, this one already had some perspective correction done to it)
