The upper Westend Valley, Upper Derwentdale, Derbyshire, the Peak District, England.

The effects of overgrazing are apparent in the absence of Heather (Calluna vulgaris) apart from remnants on the steepest slopes down to the river that sheep find difficult to access, although Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) is more widespread, and in the scarcity of trees and scrub. Dense Bracken (Pteridium aquilinum) beds evident in the foreground probably indicate suitable soils for open woodland and scrub.
