Scottish Gaelic meaning "the great herdsman of Etive"
--
Generally known to climbers simply as The Buachaille or The Beuckle, a mountain at the head of Glen Etive in the Highlands of Scotland.
It’s almost perfect pyramidal form can be seen from the A82 road when travelling towards Glen Coe, this makes it one of the most recognisable mountains in Scotland and one of the most depicted on postcards and calendars.
Looking at that ear he could have went a couple of rounds with Tyson ;-)
He sat chewing away at the peanuts we took for him and posed nicely for this close up, taken at 500mm.
The light was failing, so upped my ISO to 2000 for this one.
This little male Goldfinch posed nicely showing off his wonderful red head and markings.
I titled this shot Nature's Studio as the morning sun lit him and the branch so nicely.

With the hazy sun slowly dropping behind the distant Isle Of Arran I worked my way along the wall that frames the tidal pool.

Taken in Saltcoats, a small town on the West Coast of Scotland.

This name is derived from the town's earliest industry when salt was harvested from the sea water, carried out in small cottages along the beach.

The distinctive black eye strip always reminds me of a masked bandit, a fitting description given its habit of flying off with food to cache elsewhere.
--
The Nuthatch (Sitta europaea) is an instantly recognisable species that is unlikely to be mistaken for any other.

This small, plump, woodpecker like bird is a steel blue grey colour on top and reddish buff below.

They can descend a tree trunk head first, the only British bird that can do so.

A noisy bird, often located by its repeated tui-tui-tui call.

Coal Tit (Periparus ater)
--
This little beauty came back and forward taking nuts, they will take and store food for eating later.

Not as colourful as some of its relatives, the coal tit has a distinctive grey back, black cap and a wee white patch at the back of its neck.

It has a smaller more slender bill than blue or great tits means it can feed more successfully in conifers.

Buachaille Etive Mòr

Scottish Gaelic meaning "the great herdsman of Etive"

Generally known to climbers simply as The Buachaille or The Beuckle, a mountain at the head of Glen Etive in the Highlands of Scotland.

It’s almost perfect pyramidal form, as seen from the A82 road when travelling towards Glen Coe, makes it one of the most recognisable mountains in Scotland, and one of the most depicted on postcards and calendars.

Buachaille Etive Mòr takes the form of a ridge nearly five miles (8 km) in length, almost entirely encircled by the River Etive and its tributaries.

Not as colourful as some of its relatives, the coal tit has a distinctive grey back, black cap, and white patch at the back of its neck.

It has a smaller more slender bill than blue or great tits means it can feed more successfully in conifers.
Long Tailed Tit ( Aegithalos caudatus)

Easily recognisable with its distinctive colouring, a tail that is bigger than its body, and undulating flight.

This species has been described as a tiny (at only 13–15 cm in length, including its 7–9 cm tail), round-bodied tit with a short, stubby bill and a very long, narrow tail.

The sexes look the same and young birds undergo a complete moult to adult plumage before the first winter. Plumage is mainly black and white, with variable amounts of grey and pink.
