On my last hike in the Grand Canyon, we had an unseasonable amount of rain. The weather in the canyon is very unpredictable, and can vary depending on which rim you are on.

On our way out, a major storm was hitting the North Rim, across the canyon from us. This shot was captured when the sun momentarily broke through. It was, of course, much more spectacular in person. For scale purposes, the rim you see was 8-10 miles away from us, hence the haziness.

UPDATE 2: Some people really want to visit this place and have asked for more specific hiking instructions, so here you go:

It's in Cumberland Gap National Park, right at the conjunction of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia. The cave is on the North side of a ridge. The ridge itself is the state line between Kentucky and Virginia. The cave is on the Kentucky side. If you go to Ewing, Virginia, there's a trailhead at a place called "Civic Park".

You hike up to the ridge and follow the signs at the top, which take you back down to the cave. It's a nice day hike, though we spent the weekend on the ridge overlooking the valley, at a place called White Rocks. The downside is that the clouds that made the photo a really cool shot were there all weekend, and we only saw the view of the valley from our campsite for a few minutes on the last morning.

I took this on my trip to India in 2005. I had processed it back then, but for some reason never uploaded it to Flickr. So I made some adjustments to improve the 4 year old processing.

This photo captures perfectly why I loved taking pictures in India so much. The colors are vibrant with lots of textures and earthtones, and the people are very open and kind. I hope to return someday with better gear.

I've seen lots of this type of shot around this year. I don't usually like to do what everyone else is doing, but to be fair, I shot this on July 3rd, before I saw everyone else doing it. :)

Anyway, I don't care if the snobs find it clichèd, I happen to like the effect, and I'll probably post a few more from the series.

FYI, I shot these handheld, which is why they're not geometrically perfect, and I rather like it that way. I think this one looks like a jellyfish.

Springtime in Texas usually brings Bluebonnets, our state flower. They were especially beautiful this year, made even more so by my lovely model/bride.

This was the same trip as my infamous Sand Cave photo. The clouds finally broke after a long weekend of not being able to see beyond 100 feet. At least they broke for 20 minutes, long enough to take this shot and a couple others I'll add soon.

UPDATE: FYI, I featured this image as a "Before and After" case study on my photo blog. If you're interested in seeing the transformation, just follow the link from my profile. I'm not sure Flickr will let me hotlink directly to the blog. I seem to recall someone having their account deleted for that. Maybe I'm wrong.
