After some 2 years without publishing pictures in Flickr, I was hoping to be back with positive news about the Indigenous Rights issues in my country.
Sadly, I'm back here again to ask more help.

The model of development that Brazil is rising in the last years could have some strong positive points, but some issues related with the environment, sustainability, violence and disrespect of the Indigenous and Traditional Communities rights (as Quilombolas - historic afro-brazilian communities) are just going worst.

You've probably heard about Belo Monte Dam and other projects in the Amazon area, troubles with deforestation, monoculture, and lands issues through country. The Brazilian Association of Judges for Democracy (www.ajd.org.br/) released a campaign named "I Support the Indigenous Cause" and are asking for signatures.

I support the Indigenous Cause:
Against the PEC 215 (proposed constitutional amendment)
Demarcation of the Indigenous Lands
Urgency in Court Decisions

There are more detailed information rolling the bar on the link.
I Support the Indigenous Cause
If you agree, you can sign the petition that will be sent to the Supreme Court, the President of the Republic, the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Please, share the campaign with your contacts.
Rescuing their ancestor's traditions at the House of Knowledge, the indigenous people group living at Itacoatiara Mirim community, beside the town of São Gabriel da Cachoeira, face the difficulties of transitions and the shock of the economic development impact in the extreme northeast of Amazonas state. They seek how to preserve identities, cultural values, while an avalanche of new economic needs are born every day.

Meanwhile, last Friday (June, 5), at least 31 people have died in clashes in Peru between the security forces and indigenous people in the Amazon region. Those killed included at least 22 tribesmen and nine policemen. The violence took place as security forces tried to end a road blockade, a jungle highway near the town of Bagua.
They are opposed to plans by the government of President Alan Garcia to open up communal jungle lands for oil exploration, logging, mining and large-scale farming.
Embraced by his friend that was playing the flute, they danced together.
It was the first time I've seen someone playing a Jabuti's (turtle) hull.
The sound was a vibration produced by the friction of his warm hand,
in a constant rhythm, giving me a sense of transe.
Hypnotic and beautiful.
A Bará Indigenous man that is living at São Gabriel da Cachoeira, found at the Maloca (House of Knowledge) a secure place to express his own traditions and share with the community. With a peculiar humor, he was listed as 'dangerous indigenous man' by the Baniwa's leader of the community because he has a mustache (not very usual here).
Bará People are very rare, a estimative about their group in Brazil is about only 39 people. His original tribe is near the frontier with Colômbia, around Papuri river.
"House of Knowledge is an area of transmission and learning of the traditional culture for those who do not know or forgot. A campaign to prevent the Chamber of Deputies vote a project to reduce the legal reserve of the Amazon is being conducted by Greenpeace with support from other civil society organisations. The PL 6424/2005, called "Forest 0", reducing the reserves of the Amazon legal private property from 80% to 50% and allows an offset deforestation in different areas of the originals. The text, authored by Senator Flexa Ribeiro (PSDB-PA), also opens space for the planting of so-called energy plants (such as palm, castor bean, babassu and sugar cane). To support the campaign, sign here (I found it only in portuguese):
I've been admiring him form a long time,
a strong shaman with strong words,
embracing the environment for his people (and for us).
It was a great honor for me to meet him and to make his portrait.

"The invasion of the Yanomami lands by about 30,000 to 40,000 garimpeiros cost the lives, between 1987 and 1990, of more than 1,000 Yanomami in Brazil. Shocked with this tragedy, which revived in him the reminiscences of the epidemics that decimated his family in the 1960s, Davi Kopenawa engaged himself in a relentless struggle against the destruction of his people and of his land's forest. Thanks to his experience with the whites and the intellectual solidity his shamanistic knowledge gives him, he soon became the main spokesman for the yanomami cause in Brazil and in the world."
"The term Bororo means, in the native tongue, 'village court'. Not by coincidence, the traditional circular distribution of the houses make of the court the village center and the ritual space for this people, which is characterized by a complex social organization and a rich ceremonial life."
