Many of you may have heard of the tragedy involving 17-year-old Trayvon Martin and his killer, George Zimmerman. Trayvon was walking to his father's house in Florida, with nothing but a bag of Skittles candy and a bottle of iced tea. Zimmerman, a man with a history of violence and was a self-appointed neighborhood watchman, followed Martin and called 911 because he associated Martin's race (black) with criminals. Because it was raining, Martin had his hoodie up, and despite the 911 dispatcher instructing Zimmerman not to follow, Zimmerman didn't listen, and unfortunately shot and killed Martin, who had a clean record and no weapons. This senseless, racially motivated killing has only recently been a big thing in the news, almost an entire month after it happened. The police in that town have shown great incompetence, even holding Martin's body for 3 days and never calling his parents, despite his phone being on him, conducted drug and alcohol tests on Martin's dead body, and not on his killer. Zimmerman was never arrested and is still walking around with his gun. It is a disgrace that in 2012 that we still have racial profiling, that we have laws that make it okay to "shoot first, ask questions later", that the media and the Martin family have done more investigating than the actual police, and so much more. It just hurts me so deeply that this is even a conversation in this day and age.

My mom sent me this pic of my baby boy Nemo. They live far from me, and unfortunately I can't keep him where I live. Hopefully someday I could have him live with me, cause he really is the joy of my life. When I call my mom, sometimes she puts me on speakerphone and she says that when Nemo hears me, he starts looking around the house for me, and when he realizes my voice is coming from the phone, he tries to take the phone from her, haha. Last time I visited, he was so angry with me for not seeing him for so long (almost a year) but after an hour of nonstop barking he followed me everywhere, and when he saw me with my suitcases to go to the airport, he tried to block the door so I couldn't leave XD I miss him <3

I have a giant forehead and I'm thinking about getting bangs like that awesome Dura hair my avi's been sporting lately. Had something like that when I was about 14-15, and the first time I had it cut it looked so awesome, and no one has cut my bangs like that ever since, and that stylist has moved far away :( I've had bangs twice after that, and both times it wasn't a good job, so I'm kind of afraid of letting someone hack off my hair again haha. Anyway, been feeling this tousled hair look - gonna do this and my natural curls all spring and summer!

I really love how the Keena skin from illmatic looks on my shape. It's super cute and I'm wearing the lightest shade (I also bought 2nd shade), but there are several other shades that really do well to embody darker complexions, which as a woman of color (despite not being very dark in RL), I appreciate very much. There are so many nice skins out there that only come in a handful of shades, and as someone who already has a difficult time finding the perfect foundation in RL, the frustration is sometimes carried into SL where most skins don't cater to the vast skin tones (and undertones - I'm way yellow in RL and that's sometimes my problem - too many foundations with too much pink/red in it!) that are out there. I know it's hard work to make as many shades as RL brands like MAC or Make Up Forever, where they have neutral, warm and cool tones spanning almost every shade - it's pretty crazy to make all those colors for SL - but I wish more skin designers would make more of an effort to try to include everyone - even if it's just adding 2 or 3 extra tones to your collection. Even if the darker shades are the lowest-selling, at least they will be there for the girls who either want to show off their ethnic pride or just want to wear a dark skin. Even if you think that women of color wouldn't/don't shop at your store, you'd be surprised! Some of my favorite stores to shop at (for clothes, accessories, etc) have skins that come in maybe 3 shades, most times those shades never going any deeper than tan or sunkissed. It's disappointing, and sometimes leaves a feeling of exclusion.

Anyway, I'm ranting. Personally, I find Keena a bit too red for me, but it's such a beautiful face that I can't help but fall in love with it, and I know I will be alternating it with my main skin quite frequently. Kudos to Kaiden for making such an awesome skin and keeping "the rest of us" in mind.
