A friend's invitation intrigued me: "Come over as fast as you can. Bring your camera. I've got an unusual spider here." How could I resist? But watch out, just one tiny touch of its web and the spider is triggered into a vibrating frenzy. I dare not walk underneath the sheltered corner of the back porch he'd claimed as his home. Over the process of a day a large collection of insect carcases gathered in the web.

Old jetty pylon, Port Fairy

I took this photo during a quiet Christmas Day stroll with my husband and parents after a relaxing picnic Christmas Lunch. This old pylon is a reminder of the past. It is one of many still visible from the new jetty in Port Fairy. Birds and insects find it a convenient resting place, youth see it as a challenge to use as a stepping stone and locals and visitors use it as a marker for tidal movement of the river.

It's all about transparency!

How can such transparent wings stay still? It's almost as though this dragonfly was posing for me. He looks a bit cheeky!

The rainbow adorned dragonfly greeted me the morning after a very hot night, just resting on my flywire screen.
