This image was taken on April 10th 2013 - blue skies, warm sun and not a breath of wind to disturb the mirror calm surface of Loch Ainort and the reflections of Glamaig.

Last one from the Quiraing but I couldn't resist posting this one, the sun bathes the land in an intense golden glow - I assure you its all 'in camera' no post processing tricks.

Another image from up on the Quiraing on Skye, such were the conditions - clear skies, recent snow and over night frost - it was standing room only, I counted 8 other photographers happily snapping the dawn light.

Sometimes it can be very difficult to come up with something new at a popular tourist attraction all compositions and lighting conditions have usually been tried many times by others.
On this particular morning at Silbury Hill a thick mist developed and I waited 40 minutes for it to thin enough for me to spy the hill. While it might not be a spectacular image, it is one I think that is quite unusual and pleasing.

The Victorians had a love of walking around the countryside and planting birch trees on top of ancient burial mounds. Thus today we find isolated stands of trees in the middle of the countryside. This row of 4 is on a ridge on the east side of Silbury Hill.
I think they make a nice silhouette against the backdrop of a pre-sunrise sky.

Well an almost cloudless sunrise over Silbury Hill this morning - shame about the vapour trails in the sky. At least they act as 'leading lines' taking the attention to the hill - not that it really needs them but well done to the pilots!

Weird Cloud Formations

While most of the country slept I enjoyed some really strange cloud formations over Wiltshire. The edge of this bank of cloud fractured and then formed into something that resembled molten metal.
If anyone knows how or why this type of cloud forms then please let me know!

Another one from this morning, this time well after sunrise. The sun rose high enough to shine through some breaks in the cloud causing 'crepescular rays' or 'cathedral lighting' to reign down on the Wiltshire countryside.

A 04:00 start enabled me to get to the top of Martinsell Hill for sunrise and what a spectacular rise it was.
The sun rose behind mist making it glow red,as it climbed higher it suddenly cast bright orange rays of light through the mists and on to the ground. They lasted for just a few seconds and I almost missed them.
This image is just as my camera captured it, no saturation of the colours at all.

A wind surfer cavorts in the sea off Marazion, Cornwall. Th strong winds suited him perfectly but sadly they also blew in lots of cloud and rain which put paid to any decent landscape images.
