I found a ladybug beetle breeding ground today and I was so excited!! There were lots of brown ones and a lot of pupae. But this was the only red ladybug I found. And he definitely was not camera shy!
This is almost SOOC.

A Northern Mockingbird, which I just learned is the State bird of Texas gives me some attitude!
I have learned the names of so many birds and flowers since I started photographing them, it feels awesome!!

So I have about 4 months and 10 days to go in my 365 and I am trying to make each day count. I am trying to actually make an effort to make a photograph instead of just taking a shot. Can you imagine, in almost two years of owning a DSLR, I had not taken a photo of the omnipresent squirrel?? I knew I needed to correct this wrong, so today after work headed out with Sandy to a local walking trail and sure enough, there were plenty of these to model for me!!
This is handheld with a 250mm and I am pleased with how clear it came out!

I saw a post on DPS about free lensing and I wanted to try that! And since this is something that I couldn't have done a selfie with, I had to bribe Sandy for it!! It took a few tries, but I got it the hang of the technique! :)

Got a lot of work to do tonight. I have a lot of catching up to do with all of you, will do so tomorrow and over the weekend.

We visited the In Sync Exotics Animal rescue and education center today. It is a great place doing phenomenal work rescuing big cats from the most hapless of situations, providing them a safe haven and rehabilitating them. Although the animals were well cared for and happy now, they endured severe hardships before they got there.

Of course, I had to try out a flower for this week's DPS assignment: symmetry in nature. I don't want to post this one, because I have a different idea in mind, but I loved it for today's shot.

I had this shot in mind for this week's assignment. There are these patches of grass close to the main road near our home that look so gorgeous in the evening light. I was pretty much lying in the grass for this shot in the middle of the road. But surprisingly, I was not self-conscious. Maybe I have crossed that barrier!!!

I haven't had a chance to mention, how much I love my new lens! I love being able to shoot at f1.8 and f2.0. I had spotted this bunch of petunias earlier and I knew the light and angle would be perfect the time I decided to go today.

Epic fail kind of day. I wanted to take a shot of this patch of yellow and orange pansies that looks so beautiful. I wanted to get a wide shot with all the flowers in the patch, but none of those shots looked anything like they looked to the eye. Thankfully, I got a closeup of a flower and did some fancy LR work to compensate.

I was walking the dogs when I saw trees looking gorgeous in the evening light. But it was too late by the time I got there.
I chased the light for a bit trying to get something decent and was turning around when this bluejay happened to look at me and make my day for the second time.
The first time was when my photo was picked as the photo of the week by the local public broadcasting network!

Isn't my model just adorable!!
My awesome husband bought me a flash stand with a softbox. I thought I would try practicing some off camera flash lighting. I made mistakes, and I learnt a few lessons. Hopefully, the next time will be better.

This cute kitty is super affectionate and has a very curious spot for Sandy. She belongs to our neighbors who live downstairs and whenever she sees us, she comes on the ledge and loves it when my husband pets her. She is super cute!!

I had a disastrous evening trying out self portrait. I need to invest more time at strobist.com. Used my extension tubes for today's shot too. This is a plant that smells like thyme and has tiny white flowers. This is shot at night by the light of a street lamp as the sole light source. I am pretty pleased with it!

I gave in and bought extension tubes for my Canon. It took me a while to figure out how it works, but I am super excited about doing macro shots now. While on my walk with Sandy, I picked these tiny wildflowers and decided to use them as a subject for my photo today indoors.
