I was able to get a lot of decent wildflower images from the Mount Baker area and was surprised to see how much more wildflowers there were compared to Mount Rainier - the big difference I saw was the lack of red indian paintbrush but the lupine definitely made up for it..
Thanks very much for looking...

I had posted this on my Facebook but I have many friends here on Flickr that I do not connect with on Facebook so I posting this here. I feel stupid doing this kind of thing but I have not been very good lately about getting out there in terms of the business side so I thought I would start trying to change that. I was lucky enough to get selected as one of the top 50 Canon Photographers by Photo Plus.. so I posted the article and cover of the magazine.

Thanks to everyone in the group as it was a great time and thanks to Adrian Klein for all the help and Ryan McGinty for letting me in on some of your secrets from the Palouse. In case your interested I did a blog today on secrets to photographing wildflowers which can be accessed through my profile. I am off to Iceland tonight with fellow Flickr friend Dene M for the next week !!! As always thanks for looking !

I eventually was able to make this 11 mile roundtrip up to Jefferson Park Wilderness;
it was a very last minute thing and it is so stunning up there in the Oregon Central Cascades. Just after this they started to close down parts of the park due to the forest fires in close vicinity. I did not do so well on this hike as my replacement hip popped out near the top and I wanted to thank Adrian K for his patience
and help getting to this spot and then eventually the long trip back.

This is an image along highway 4 just outside Woodstock in Vermont. It was really raining at the time of this image but I liked how the mist was coming in and out of the colorful foliage. But what I really liked was the reds in the foreground that gave the image some punch. I know this is kinda of abstracty but the mix of colors was too much to pass on especially since the lower right tree anchored the rest of the image

This is an image from my New England fall tour this year which took me to Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, New York, and Mass. This particular image is from Maine along the coast. One of the better known lighthouses called Pemaquid Lighthouse. I know this place has been shot alot but when you are from the West Coast and you never seen this place it is quite something with lots of possibilities.

This is an image from awhile back of a photographer that got stuck out at high tide. It was not my intention to shoot this fellow photographer but he would not move and it was right in the middle of where I wanted to shoot. After awhile I gave up and tried to work him into the image. This image won the category of best adventure for a National Geographic Photo Contest which was published in the National Geographic December 2008 issue. I was very happy to win the category but I missed out on the grand prize of a trip to two to AFRICA by a bit. Anyways, I am posting this image as I am doing a story on my blog about EXTREME PHOTOGRAPHY and thought this was very fitting

This is another image from Ruby Beach along the Olympic Peninsula. I really liked how the last light was hitting the distant haystack and creating a nice warm glow. To achieve the wave action I kept my shutter speed at 0.5 sec to get the longer streaks.

Thanks for looking and commenting !
I appreciate all the comments and I try to reciprocate as much as I can. I appreciate the time you take to write something that helps improve the image.

This is an image from a while back on Ruby Beach. I used couple of flood lights to paint this haystack with warm tones while the cool blue tones in the sky balanced the colors nicely. I also liked the texture and reflections of the cool tones in the ripples.

This is an image from a long trip to Crater Lake that I made overnight to make for sunrise. I know they are many of the same images from this area but it was hard to get very original with a lot of the area closed for avalanche warnings. I had the Crater Lake to myself and got a chance to snowshoe around a good part of the rim.

This is an image from the northern coast of Oregon. Any guesses to which one ?? This was an image taken with a Singh Ray Vari - ND 8 stop plus a Singh_Ray 5 Stop 5ND for a total of 13 stops and a very long exposure which gave me some extra punch in colors in camera. When I am looking for extra "pop" with saturation I always put on 10 or more stops to get very lenghty exposures. This was taken several minutes after sunset which also gives the water its cool tones. I was really going for a mix of cool tones and warm to complement each other

Thanks for looking !!!

A Surreal Winter Morning

kevin mcneal posted a photo:

I am afraid this might be a big mistake but I am trying to take chances so here goes. This is an image from an sunrise on the mountains in British Columbia. The sun was trying to break through the clouds from the left side. The mountain was full of mist that was coming in and out. The sun created a strong highlight which I choose to not correct as I wanted to convey the impression of the light source. There is a mix of cool tones and a hint of pinks from the early morning light that was present. I realize this image will not work for most people but I am trying to create more of a painterly style to my images.

This was from the coast last night. I do not think have been so upset to miss a sunset like we had over Mount Rainer as I went down to Oregon to chase the sunset that was suppose to be epic there while back at home I missed the best sunset Washington State has seen in years including multiple lenticular clouds

This image is from a recent trip to the Palouse with Zack Schnepf. This image is inspired from Chip Phillips who is the king of Steptoe Butte. He made me realize that patience is the way to get amazing pics here. This image took some time and repeted visits and it still was not nearly as good as Chips but it was fun trying. We had the best weather I have ever had a on a trip. We had thunder showers and great cumulus clouds the whole time. We chased light the whole time we were there looking for spotlight on amazing lime green hills. Anyways thanks Zack for the good times !!!!

Enjoy your day everyone !!!
