Another photo where I grabbed the camera as soon as I stopped at a light, and shot before it turned green. I kind of like this style…as long as I don't get labeled as some creeper :)

This week was a great exercise that I recommend others partake in. I focused on shadows quite a bit, which allowed me to get a deeper understanding of the way light works, and how shadows can make or break an image. The right shadow adds charter, the wrong shadow just gets in the way.

This photo came from a walk around the capitol building one morning. The sun was hitting everything in a very pleasing manner, yet getting shot where shadows were the subject was still very difficult. I like the way this one came out, as the shadow is the main portion of the frame, but still we see the subject that made the shadow. Creates an interesting composition for me.

All editing done in Topaz B&W Effects.

I was wondering what I was going to shoot for my daily photo when I stepped outside an saw a bright red beam of light in the sky. Woah! It's the Northern Lights way down here, and super bright. I ran to get my camera/tripod and setup on the back deck to take some photos of something I have seen in 12 years. It was great to see them with the naked eye, but even better with a 30 second, 400 ISO exposure.

Cleaned up in Topaz DeNoise and slight tweaks in Aperture.

After attending a wedding a few blocks away from the Mississippi River, I thought it would be nice to head down towards the river to see if there were any nice bluffs. Unfortunately, this city is so strange that they blocked off the river with a 10 foot high concrete wall! Apparently that is to help prevent flooding, but it also helps prevent nice views.

Used Topaz DeNoise and Adjust to really bring out the colors and details of this scene. Then Aperture for some small teaks, but Adjust didd most of the heavy lifting on this photo.

The sky over Madison on Thursday night was bright orange due to the sun shinning along the the edge of a major storm that was moving through to the south.
