CVSE recently acquired a mobile command vehicle (left) to support regular road checks, and act both as an emergency vehicle and incident command station.

Intersection upgrade for Highway 22 at Minto Road, Castlegar

Improvements to the Highway 22/Minto Road intersection south of Castlegar are helping to make this section of Highway 22 safer for all motorists.

The existing intersection at Minto Road was replaced with a new “protected t” configuration. This new intersection provides enhanced safety for all highway users, especially those using the City of Castlegar's Commercial Park on Minto Road and residents that use the Minto Road intersection as part of their daily commute. While the new intersection improves highway safety, it also changes access to a number of businesses in the area.

The project was valued at $1.9 million. Copcan Contracting from Nanaimo was awarded the construction contract. Work was officially completed on December 8th, 2012.

Highway 97 Six-Laning in Kelowna

Highway 97 through Kelowna, between Highway 33 and Edwards Road, will be widened from four to six lanes. Intersections along this 4.5-kilometre stretch will also be upgraded.

The expansion will increase capacity, improve safety, and better connect the downtown core with the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2014, with completion in 2016.

These Mountain caribou were spotted around Kootenay Pass summit on March 20, 2013, the first day of spring.

"Caution" signs are posted along this 7-kilometre stretch of "Caribou Corridor. As spring begins, it's a good reminder to watch for wildlife along B.C. Highways. To learn more, read the TranBC blog:

Saltery Bay Ferry

A ferry is spotted near Powell River and the Saltery Bay ferry terminal on March 18, 2013.

The ferry runs between Saltery Bay and Earls Cove, connecting Highway 101, and is part of the Coastal Circle Route. Learn more:
