Taken around midnight next to the river. My friend and I hiked along the river trail with a head-torch to see where we were going. These trees made a good foreground for the shot so we set up our tripods. I took a long exposure still while my friend filmed a time-lapse of the stars. We then waited around 1 hour in the darkness for the shots to finish. Walking back along the river trail to get home was slightly scary.

I took this on a seriosuly steep hill on the Tor y Foel mountain. The weather was lovely.

Taken 14th October last year at my local mountain. The day was almost wind free with loads of sunshine. A lovely day.

There are around 700 Puffins on Rathlin Island. Such a strange but cool bird!

This photo shows the west end of Rathlin Island (to the right) and the mainland on the left. Rathlin Island is only 6 miles off the north coast of Nothern Ireland.

For the past 3 weeks I have been on Rathlin Island off the north coast of Northern Ireland.
I have been volunteering for the RSPB, and had an absolutely awesome time. I also had ample time to photograph the seabirds that were there.

This is a Razorbill returning to it's nest.

Pied Wagtail

I am renting the Canon 400mm f/5.6 for a week. Using a lens with this magnification has been (and still is) a steep learning curve!

For this shot I crouched low and rested the lens on a rock for some stability. I focused on the Wagtail and took some shots, then suddenly another arrived on the rock. I think the one on the left is the male and the other the female.

I got up early this morning to catch the mist rising from the canal. I set this shot up then noticed a woman walking her dog. As she walked past I took the shot, making her part of the photo.

Crickhowell Bridge

I live so near to this small town in the Brecon Beacons, and I cycle past it almost everyday, that I decided to finally take some photos of it. This is the bridge that separates Crickhowell from Llangattock. I go over it everyday and it's very photogenic.

I spent a long time at this location, trying out different compositions from different angles. I seemed to get better as the afternoon went on. This was one of my last compositions and shots, and it was my favourite too. I used a 10-Stop Neutral Density filter as I wanted to seriously the blur the water. I took a shot without the filter too just for good measure. Which do you personally prefer?

The Leaning Tree

This evening I went on a great walk with my Dad. It's the perfect time to go on a walk, the light was magical.
I have to get back on the photography! There's so much out there, and so much light to be captured!

For some reason the darkest parts of the tree look a bit "mushy". When viewed at full size, this isn't the case.

Focus

Today I went to Focus on Imaging 2012 at the N.E.C in Birmingham.

I managed to resist buying anything, which was quite an achievement.

I tried out loads of lenses and cameras including the brand new Canon 5D Mark III. It looked amazing. I also had a go with the Fujifilm X100 which was pretty cool.
Lens-wise, I had a go with the Canon 200mm f/2, 300mm f/2.8, 400mm f/2.8, 500mm f/4, 600mm f/4 and 800mm f/5.6. So not bad really.. !

I also got my own camera out and took some photos at the Westcott stand which had a model there.
More pics below.

I decided to stop the 365 project I was undertaking because it was making me a lazy photographer i.e. getting my mobile out and pointing the camera at something random and uninteresting.

Up at 5:37am this morning to do some landscape photography. I didn't check the weather forecase and was a bit disappointed to see fog everywhere. If only I had decided to do this a day earlier when the sky was clearer!

Partrishow Church

A really nice little church in the countryside of Wales. Every time I visit the church, the sun is shining.

The village is noted for its outstanding 11th-century church with an intricately carved 16th century rood screen, mediaeval mural paintings, and one of the oldest fonts in Wales. The church was originally called Methur Issui, a corruption of Merthyr Ishaw. It is now known as St Patrico. It avoided Victorian restoration, and its conservation was undertaken by W. D. Caroe in 1908-9, with further work on the churchyard in 1919.
