Fire accidents in slums of chennai have become an usual incidents every year.Anti social elements in the society throws chemicals like phosphorus over the huts which burn when exposed to air.People feel that there is strong political motive behind these .Following the fire accident on 31-08-2012,another accident occurred on 02-09-2012 at Srinivasapuram ,a slum in foreshore estate .The huts were completely damaged.The incident occurred on two successive days burning over 200 huts.I came to know about this at 11 am in the morning .When i reached the place by 11.15 AM, fire was extinguished by fire workers and I started documenting the events happening over there.At 11.30,I heard huge screams and people running as another hut caught fire due to the chemical substance thrown by an unidentified person.People went aggressive trying to catch the person who ran after throwing the phosphorous.Two suspects were caught and 1 escaped.The residents lost all their properties,money,clothes,valuables and children lost their books,certificates.They have become homeless.One person died in this fire accident,2 were injured.This is my effort to document the series of events which happened on 2nd Sep 2012.Hope things like this comes to an end.

Theru koothu-the oldest form of art was a powerful medium for the spread of rationalist ideas,culture .The communists also used this medium to a substantial measure.I am trying to make a photo essay on their lives.Though i haven't completed it ,these are some of the pictures taken during The mahabharatham festival and another play which took place at madambakkam. Mahabharatham festival takes places every year in the month of May-June.This year, the 10 day event took place at Sengadhu,near cheyyar,Kanchipuram. The artists start their play at midnight and it goes till 6 to 7 am in the morning. As they need to shout their dialogues,their throats gets badly affected after the first few days ,but their passion and dedication helps them to perform and make the audience laugh.Street plays are now becoming extinct even in the rural villages of india,as the younger generation opt for dance programs,light music and other cultural activites instead of street play.Now ,only a few practice this art.
