At Skogafoss we had to witness a quite strange photoshoot for some fashion label. The Lord of the Rings look alike models were supposed to walk as close to the waterfall as possible. Still beeing 100 Meters away they were soaking wet at 9°C and seemingly anoyed. The following discussion under the rainbow took some time and nerves because actually I did not want Gandalf to draw all the attention away on my Skogafoss images. After a while I just tried to make the best out of the situation ;)

After walking through a rainy nothingness for almost an hour the storm calmed down as we reached the wreck of the crashed Dakota at Solheimasandur. The atmosphere of the place is a morbid magic - nothing but black ashes as far as you can see and this plane in the center of total silence really gave me the shivers.

I strongly recommend visiting this less known highlight on Iceland but please apologize that I will not let out it's exact position because there are already too many graffiti and missing parts due to souvenir hunting. You can find it with a bit of effort by internet research and the help of google maps - I think it also makes the experience much more interesting :) Please respect the place If you go there.

The Landmannalaugar area is a popular tourist destination and hiking hub in Iceland's highlands. The area displays a number of unusual geological elements, like the multicolored rhyolite mountains and expansive lava fields, not far from the service center. The many mountains in the surrounding area display a wide spectrum of colors including pink, brown, green, yellow, blue, purple, black, and white. Two of the most popular mountains among hikers are Bláhnjúkur (meaning "blue peak") and Brennisteinsalda (meaning "sulphur wave").
