"The church is in a Greek revival style, using the Ionic order. It is built from brick, faced with Portland stone, except for the portico and the tower above the roof, which are entirely of stone. All the external decoration, including the capitals of the columns is of terracotta.

The Inwoods drew on two ancient Greek monuments, the Erechtheum and the Tower of the Winds, both in Athens, for their inspiration."

Adeiladwyd yr eglwys hon yn 1873 , ac fe'i cynlluniwyd gan Paley ac Austin o Gaerhirfryn. Cymerodd le'r hen eglwys, a oedd wedi ei chysgeru i Sant Mihangel. Roedd galw am adeilad mwy am fod cynifer o ymwelwyr yn dylifo i'r dref erbyn 70au'r 19eg ganrif. Cynlluniwyd llawer o'r gwydr lliw gan Syr Edward Coley Burne-Jones (1833-1898).

Saint Marys, at Betws-y-coed, was built in 1873, and designed by Paley & Austin of Lancaster. This larger building was needed to replace the old St. Michael's Church as so many tourists were pouring into the village by the 1870s. Much of the stained glass was designed by Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones (1833-1898).

This porch was added to the church by John Davies, a prominent Welsh scholar who had great influence on the history of the written language. He composed a dictionary (Latin & Welsh) and a grammar (in Latin) and also revised the Welsh translation of the Bible.

These bones are described either as those of a mammouth (tusk and epiphysis of a limb) or of a whale (rib and patella - but do whales have a patella?)
