Given that it was a beautiful sunny day and I was meeting Geoff and Mal at the Euro Car Day at Lambton seemed a great opportunity to find myself another stranger. I arrived and got a corker of a park, a real rarity at this gig, and within minutes I spied this magnificent beard. Checking out the light and a few of the cars I lost sight of the bearded man and met up with my mate Geoff. We wandered about a bit and I took a few shots of hood ornaments and then I then caught sight of the beard again and he was standing very near Geoff's Peugeot. Opportunity came knocking and I introduce myself to the beaded man. He introduced himself as Andrew and he, like Geoff is a Peugeot collector!!! I quickly asked Andrew if he would participate in the 100 Strangers Project, details of which can be found here 100 Strangers Flickr Group page and he agreed!

Andrew and I talked about his cars for a while. He has 3 Peugeot 504's. One wagon, one Cabriolet and the white 2 door Coupe he had driven to the show. He's based in the Hunter and has spent much of his life undertaking such diverse employment as a psych nurse and a potter. Ends up he knows my friend Geoff and Mal, the Cessnock Peugeot mechanic who took part in my "Strange Not Stranger" side project today too!!! Small world for these Peugeot lads!

I've jumped into a flickr project of photographing 100 Strangers. You can read all about it and see the works at 100 Strangers Flickr Group page. Sometimes I chicken out or end up catching up with friends instead of hunting strangers, so I have started a series of portraits of people I know. So as they aren't strangers, I have simply called them strange! Why? Cos we are all odd in our own ways!

Being out of action for the majority of the last 12 months I specifically went out today to right that wrong and get both a stranger and a "Strange not Stranger" image!

So let me introduce Mal. How long I have known Mal is a bit of a mystery. I remember him coming to the house about 15 years ago with Geoff (Strange not Stranger No:2) and Mal's brother Steven. Then I recall heading up to his place back in 2008 and we have bumped into a each other quite a few times inbetween! Mal is a top bloke who looks good in an Akubra and loves a fine french car! he has a great sense of humour and a beautiful bride who needs to write blog!!!

Flushed with yesterday success in photographing Jodie (59/100) after a long and unintentional break I attended the ANZAC DAY Service at Rathmines War Memorial with camera in tow. Funnily stranger 59 Jodie was there laying a wreath and at the end of proceedings I spied Chris and hoped he would be my stranger no. 60. I had seen Chris earlier in the day as he was one of the awesome singers in the Galston Uniting Church Men's Choir. I introduced myself and asked Chris if he would participate in the 100 Strangers Project, details of which can be found here 100 Strangers Flickr Group page he tried to deflect me to photograph his wife, and she is stunning, but I knew he would introduce me and that is not in the spirit of the project. Originally from Canada Chris has not totally lost his ascent. We talked about the choir and its connection to Rathmines. Richard Udy, who had read the Prayer for Members of the 11, 20, 42 , 43, 10 and 461 Squadrons and the Poem "Catalina Argonauts" at the service is a retired RAAF Officer and was based in Rathmines. He too sung in the Choir. Thus the connection was made. We also discussed that insidious disease cancer and how it has affected us all. I took just the one shot of Chris and as we continued to talk we walked over and met his wife. Her father died just 2 years ago and is remembered on a brass plate there at the war memorial in Rathmines. Together they made a stunning couple and I did sneak one shot of them together.

Thanks Chris for being my Stranger no. 60 and may you and your wife continue to beat cancer and continue smiling.

Well it has been 5 months since my last Stranger shot. Today I found myself in a position to take a picture of a stranger and grabbed it with both hands. Let me introduce Jodie. Jodie is the Mayor of the City of Lake Macquarie. I was at the Council Chambers for a work function and Jodie came over to speak to a group of people I was standing with. I instantly leapt into "Stranger mode", details of which can be found here 100 Strangers Flickr Group page. Upon explaining the Project she agreed enthusiastically! So I grabbed my gear and hunted for a "not so busy" part of the chambers while she chatted to others. We were upstair and every wall was "busy" with art and signage, but I did find a location against an internal balcony so I headed back to the group. Jodie and I wandered to the internal balcony area. I took two shots as she blinked in the first! As we chatted about her role as Mayor and the life that lead her there we discovered she had once worked for the husband of a friend of mine! We talked about her predecessor, who has a passion for photography, but not a passion Jodie shares. She said she didn't really have an obsession, but that she did read alot albeit " mostly business papers"!! Jodie offered to climb into her Mayoral robes of orange fabric with red fox and lace adornment, but I was happy with the shot I had and as I try to take all my strangers in one shot, I declined.

So 5 months later, I am back shooting strangers again and loving it!!!

On monday 4th March my good mate Jenny McGregor lost her 6 year battle with cancer. Just 5 days short of her 52nd birthday. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends. Poor old girl will be missed.
