Our time in the US is up! In a few hours, we're flying back home. As a goodbye photo, I decided to upload the take-off of this wood duck. Well, I sure know now why it's called a wood duck. It loves hiding in the shrubs near the water's edge. Very shy animals with splendid colours. I hope you guys enjoy this photo!

Cheers!

It only took me and my husband 16 hours of driving, covering 200 miles of dirt road to find our first, wild burrowing owls to photograph. We had no idea where to look, but finally, our hard work and persistence paid off. Thnx for all your patience and the fun times, hubby!

Another blue beauty from my stock pile. A blue-breasted kingfisher done taking its bath and resting on a branch near the Marakissa river in Gambia.

I sure hope to be able to go out more soon, but I have to be careful these days ;) I'm not alone anymore you see. Soon enough, Dennis and I will have a little photographer of our own running around the house and the first trimester of my pregnancy hasn't been a walk in the park. Oh well, all good things take effort. Cheers!

It's too sad for words that the poisoning of these beauties is still a common practice on Borneo. Recently, another 14 elephants were found dead, according to reports of CNN. Poisoning elephants is often done by local farmers who don't want these creatures anywhere near their land. We were lucky to see around 20 or 30 of the last remaining 2000 elephants. Even more so when this young male decided to raise his trunk and call out to the rest of the herd.

Yes, the first snow has finally arrived in Holland. Expectations are high. As soon as the first flakes touched down, I couldn't wait to go out and photograph foxes playing in a white blanket of frozen precipitation. Perhaps I was a little bit too quick about it. Both the fox and I looked up with anticipation, but nothing. Just a thin layer of frost. We'll keep trying, the fox and I. For now, I'll have to make due with this lovely image.

Proboscis monkey's, also called Orang Belanda or the Dutchman, are native to the Borneo rainforest. Every night, they hop from tree to tree, sometimes taking giant leaps as this one is, to find a suitable place for the night alongside the Kinabatangan river.

In this low light condition, I was happy to have at least one, non-blurry shot of these jumping giants (they are fairly large for a monkey). In any case, the monkeys put up a wonderful show for us.

I did not touch the saturation button, I swear! This bird really is this blue!

During our trip through Borneo, I learned that these precious kingfishers used to be hunted down by local tribesmen so they could use its feathers to decorate their outfit. The population took a major blow from it, but today, the blue-eared kingfisher has a healthy, steady population.

Hello everybody!

What an amazing honeymoon Dennis Rademaker and I had! We stood face to face with wild Orang Utans, crossed paths with a herd of endangered pygmy elephants and were able to photograph many stunning birds.

But for now, I'm gonna start off with a new artistic style I hope to master, underwater photography!

This photo was taken at Sipadan, an underwater national park at the south-east end of Malaysian Borneo. Now, one does not dive alone, and one especially does not go photographing under water alone, so a lot of credit to my new hubby, Dennis Rademaker, for keeping track of depth and time while I was handeling our underwater camera.

I hope you all enjoy this photo as much as we enjoyed taking it. There are certainly a lot of treasures beneath the sea that are well worth capturing on camera ;)

This will be my last photo on Flickr for a while.

Just four more weeks, and then Dennis and I will have our wedding day. Lots to do still, and we're so excited about our big day!

After that, we're off for our honeymoon in Borneo. I'm sure we'll bring back many lovely photos to share.
Stay well!
This will be my last photo on Flickr for a while.

Just four more weeks, and then Dennis and I will have our wedding day. Lots to do still, and we're so excited about our big day!

After that, we're off for our honeymoon in Borneo. I'm sure we'll bring back many lovely photos to share.

Stay well!

Ever seen three adults laying belly down, shoulder to shoulder, bent over a moss covered tree log and clicking away at something that can hardly be seen with the naked eye?

I wonder what by-passers must have thought. Never mind, this image is just too cute to pass up!

I just came back from a trip to the Ardennes with Hennie van Heerden and Dennis Rademaker. For two nights in a row, we staked out in a shelter near a badger's den. Rain was pouring down but finally, as the very last light was about to disappear, a badger came out to forage on the forest floor. What luck! And what wonderful animals!
