Familiar view, but this time with clouds. Or better clouds than I usually get, anyway.

I know I've shot here a bunch. In fact I've shot here more times than I have successfully walked away with a "keeper".

This is a single shot, just over 5 minutes. I was pretty happy with the clouds and how the ultra-long exposure really smoothed out the light trails.

Have a great Friday, and a great weekend.

The "blue hour" that is - it's really not an hour. It's really not even half an hour. It's only about 15 minutes, maybe 20. Once the exposure of the scene evens out, the shoot is over.

Slightly better skies than last week but still not as good as I was hoping for.

This was shot from the Battery Street overpass on Interstate 630. Was hoping for a more dramatic sky, but I guess I will have to go back for a re-shoot, which means getting up even earlier if that is to take place before June 21. I have been trying to find a good location to include the Capitol which by the way is very difficult to expose correctly. It is slightly overexposed here, but I did all I knew to do to get it right. Every time I shoot at this time of day, I am amazed at how quickly the light changes and goes flat or becomes harsh.

Below are a couple shots facing the opposite direction taken about 36 hours prior.

Have a great weekend!

clay.wells (Explorer of the High Ozarks) posted a photo:

Driving directions (since the map is probably not all that accurate and folks have been asking): From Clarksville take HWY 21 all the way to the Buffalo River. About 50 miles. After you cross the Buffalo River the first time, Cave Mountain road (County 5) is immediately to the left. It’s gravel all the way and steep for the first half mile or so. At 5.4 miles you come to Cave Mountain Church on the right, then another half mile on the right is a small parking area for the trail. The trail however is across the road near a large boulder with an inscription of some sort. The trail is well marked all the way to the crag. It’s about 1.5 miles from the parking area.

By the way, neither Cave mountain road nor the Buffalo River are marked I don’t think. It was dark when I drove in for this shot and I don’t remember seeing signs on either one. Cave Mtn road is very easy to miss in the dark though and the bridge is tiny – not nearly as big as the bridge at Ponca or any of the others farther downstream.

Enjoy!

Shot of the crag just before sunrise. This is (hopefully) a very subtle HDR blend with one of the original images. The HDR helped bring out some of the color in the foliage. But the rock outcrop is from the original image.
