I stripped this shot back to black & white, then built up the palette by pulling through colours and making them stick to different parts of the tonal range. Added in lots of contrast & saturation as well. Took a whole evening to do, but it is definately my favourite rework of this shot.

Sea Freight Containers stacked at a recycling plant in the Docklands. Cropped in just a little to simplify the composition. I didn't notice till afterwards that exposing for the sunlit containers had rendered the shadowed rope coil blue.. just enough to offset the rusty yellows. Amen to 'happy accidents'..

Using the B&W original as a starting point, I spent about an hour pulling through layers of colour & messing with the contrast/brightness.. MS Photo Manager can be a bit tedious like that, but I'm quietly please with this version.

One very angry looking giant robot.. time to smash!

A very contrasty and purpley-blue toned version.. Think it adds a bit more 'shape' than plain B&W.. Looks like I'm about to get stomped by those big iron legs!

Detail of an emergency [fire fighting?] pump on board a merchant ship moored at West India Quay.

Didn't want this just to be a colour themed shot, so I emphasized the bulky construction with loads of contrast instead.

Tried to avoid the classic gas holder shot & picked out some detail instead. I think you can still tell what it is..? The sky was pretty flat and contrast was hard to come by, so some toning & tweaking was badly needed..

Walking up from Bow Lock to Three Mills you pass under the junction of several rail bridges. The trains run no more than 4 feet above your head. This version is lifted with just a hint of blue tone.

A totally false colour version. I had never imagined 'pink' to be a feature colour for a shot of something cold, grey and metallic.. but I'm pleased how this 'Happy Accident' turned out.

Felled aggregate silos next to the River Thames, awaiting disposal. Looks deceptively simple, but a lot of colour layers went into this!
