Moonlit Guardian

Cash254 posted a photo:

The Subject

The intention of the shoot was to try and capture the Aurora Borealis expected over the UK but was unsucessful mainly due to the relative Southerly lattitude and a full moon.

Talacre Lighthouse on the North coast of Wales provided the foreground for this shot to the North. The sky appears to rotate around Polaris (The Pole Star) giving spectacular trails.

A full moon on the Southern horizon lit the lighthouse from behind and provided an erie reflection and shows that even in the middle of the night, the moon can be surprisingly bright.

Note: Talacre Lighthouse physically leans to one side, this is not a lens distortion.

Shot Info

The shot is a 10 minute exposure (20 exposures at 30 seconds each, stacked) at F3.6, ISO400 and an 18mm focal length (27mm at 35mm Equivalent).

More information about Talacre and the lighthouse can be found here:
Star Trails & Car Trails

The Subject

The intended subject of this shoot was the Jodrell Bank Telescope with a star trail background but unfortunately cloud cover and light pollution prevented a clear shot to the North. This shot was taken looking to the East combining a quiet road and an interesting silhouetted tree-line.

The trees were 'painted' with light by the passing cars that also left spectacular trails to complement the rotating night sky.

Shot Info

5 Minute Exposure (30seconds x 10) at F3.5 and ISO 400. Processed in ACR.
