Maligne Lake at Jasper National Park on a cloudy day with melting ice in the Spring. Quite the road trip this Victoria Day May Long Weekend. Probably been 20 years since the last time I visited Jasper and the wife doesn't have memory of being here. Interesting change from Banff, WAY more wildlife sightings and far more remote.

A nice cold root beer at the Railroad Cafe by Heritage Park. Decided not to actually go into the park today. Apparently when it's Thomas the Tank Engine day, the historical village is closed, the boat doesn't run and the train is sold out. Chilling out at the Railroad Cafe was still nice though.

Tried to take a detour coming home today thanks to local road construction. Worked out worse than if I had just sat and waited on the normal route, but I came across this Canadian Pacific Rail locomotive instead.

Classic sausage, bacon and eggs breakfast from Melissa's Steakhouse. A local favorite of ours off the main Banff Avenue. There's probably 4 places in Banff that we'd go back to time and again and Melissa's is one of them along with Bumper's Beef House, Balkan Greek Restaurant and Chaya Japanese noodle house.

A wet day out in Banff today. This shot was inspired by a vintage postcard we picked up at the farmer's market last weekend. It was from the 1970's and you could clearly see the red brick building on the right and the white / brown roof building on the left. Very interesting what stays and what goes through the years. Landscapes tend to be timeless, but the human part is forever changing.

I have coffee about once a week these days, definitely cut back a lot from my younger days. When I do, it's probably either at a nearby Second Cup or at a smaller independent place. This one is from Bumpy's Cafe.

Headed over to Edelweiss Village and had a red borscht at Kaffe Straube. Very cool place, I enjoyed the borscht thoroughly and messily.

Headed down to the BMO Centre for Aggie Days today. Pretty neat stuff, saw some giant farm equipment and various farm animals. This little guy looked tired.

Taken on Olympus 35RC @ f8.0 1/250sec on Fujifilm Superia X-TRA 400.
Set Plustek 7400 at 7200 DPI scaled to 50% with Fujifilm Superia 400 profile in Silverfast.

Picked settings based on heavy overcast -3 stops, so 1/400 should be f5.6, but I wanted f8.0 which gives me 1/200 @ f8.0. Since it's relatively bright, I went with 1/250 instead of 1/125.

Ventured out in the snow to Calgary Mission District on 4th Street to give Blondes Diner a try. Years before, that location was a Greek place where we first discovered that the Greeks did great calamari. I had a Hot Beef Sandwich with a side of chickpea salad today. Delicious, very nice juicy tender beef.

Very cold and foggy today. Saw this close to the ground where the wind doesn't blow as hard and the frost doesn't have the characteristic spiky hoar frost look yet.
