Like Bike

Whilst watching MPEG Streamclip transcode a terabytes worth of footage for my bike film BOIKZMOIND I stared blankly at the Facebook 'Like' button. I don't know why I didn't twig earlier that 'Like' is a lot like 'Bike' and then when I thought that the 'thumbs up' icon looks a lot like a hand-gripping handlebars, well I had to do something about it, so here it is!

I'm sure a million people have already thought of this but I wanted to make the graphic anyway! I opened Firefox, went to a page with a Like button on it, used Firebug to change the text of 'Like' to 'Bike' and then screengrabbed the button. I then blew it up to 4800% in Illustrator, making a grid of pixel squares and then colour-matched each one so at the end I had a vector version of the pixelated button.

I turned the thumbs up on its side and started making the drop bars for either end, matching the pixel-edged colours to make it 'together', and here we are, a bit of Sunday graphics fun!

Hello Sailor

Matt Daniels aka stickypop had some tragic news recently, his girlfriend Emma passed away suddenly after battling with an illness. In her memory Matt is putting on a art show, with the proceeds going to charity, and what you see above is my piece for it.

You see, the theme for the show was "Sailors & Cats", as those 2 were some of Emma's favourite things. He also supplied us a set of 5 colours to use, so all the pieces flow together.

After having a think, I wanted to try something different and thought about why not using a famous cat and doing my take on it. Then, i thought, why not go the whole hog and mix both a famous cat and sailor together! Well the idea was set and after lots of tracing, path tweaking and shape bending, it all came together, I call it "Hello Sailor"!

I'm really happy with this, it was a lot of fun putting it together and will hopefully make people smile at the show. If it does, well then my job is done :)

Championsheeps Logo's

For the past few months we've all been hard at work in Aardman Digital, with a big team of us crafting away on a brand new suite of games for Shaun the Sheep and I am very pleased to say that it's all now LIVE!

The games are called the Championsheeps and they're a suite of 5 different games themed around sports day down on the farm, from a putt & smash golf game 'Baahmy Golf' to a stacking puzzle called 'Sheep Stack', there's plenty for you to play!

I was fortunate enough to be Senior Designer on the project where I designed all the game logo's in a style reminiscent of the classic NBA team logos and also all the in-game interface stuff, which I wanted to give a look of ESPN meets Farmyard Sports Day! Oh yes and I also got to design the surrounding website that the games live on too, I have been kept busy.

It was brilliant working with such a talented team of folk, we had flash programmers, 3D Modellers, games developers all working on this, it's been a brilliant learning curve to build something of this quality, so we're incredibly proud of it!
