Streaking Monorail

Brett Kiger posted a photo:

No, not that kind of streaking. You can see this monorail is still filly clothed in green. It's actually a monorail that is streaking from the future, alright, well, maybe just in Future World. But, I digress...

The thing I remember most about capturing this image was being absurdly hot. It was around 90, and the humidity was approximately the same as walking through a swimming pool. And, here I was camped out with my tripod on some nice concrete in full sun waiting for monorails to pass!

Normally I wouldn't even try for a shot like this, but I had a photo day at the parks while Carrie was off visiting a friend. I usually just take daytime pictures as we go from attraction to attraction, but I decided to try for a few that would otherwise take too much time.

The first shot for this composite was taken with a 9 stop ND, 3 stop ND, and circular polarizer all stacked together to get the monorail streak (it fills the entire beam!) and fountain blur Even then, I could only get a 6 second exposure because the base ISO of the OM-D is 200 and I only stopped down to f/13 because micro 4/3 lenses seem to suffer from diffraction more than their full frame counterparts.

I then had to spend some time on a bench in Innoventions enjoying the AC and cooling down for bit. That, and trying to separate all of my filters which were now stuck together!
Muppet*Vision 3D

Brett Kiger posted a photo:

Sticking with the Muppets theme, but heading 2500 miles east, here's the WDW original version of this attraction. While to actual attraction (movie) is the same, the surrounding area is quite different. At DCA, the theater is tucked back in a corner without much Muppets themeing. WDW is quite different with this large Muppets square and the Stage 1 Company Store. I've heard that a much larger Muppets presence was planned, but never materialized.

In contrast to some of the other 3D films throughout the parks, I think this one has held up the best. With the exception of the end scene with the fire truck crashing through the theater and exposing the guests outside, the story and characters have held up well. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I hope they leave this one alone for another 20 years!
Almost Thirty

Brett Kiger posted a photo:

And, still looking pretty good I must say! I could photograph this thing for hours... When you have blue moon to work with, you just have to take lots of shots, right? I mean, then you get to say stuff like, you only get that shot once in a blue moon!

Well, on this evening, I challenged myself to take a shot in every country that included the moon. I made my mad dash around World Showcase and came away with a few that I really like (more on those later). Trying not to be the last one out this time, I was walking purposefully towards the gate when I remembered I now have a fisheye in the bag.

I love the way this fountain looks at night, and I knew I could finally make it the star of the photo by setting up my tripod on the ledge. I was quite pleased with the result after just one frame, so I was on my way...

This time next week, we'll be at Epcot to celebrate the 30th. Unfortunately, we're also leaving that day so we can't stay as long as I'd like. I hope to see some of you in the park!

Another park that I had not visited in Chicago was Grant Park. Since it's only a short walk from Millennium Park, we ventured over to see the fountain. Unfortunately, it wasn't operating at the time so it looks like I'm going to have to make another visit.

Just a Little Off

Brett Kiger posted a photo:

The title describes the picture and also how I still feel...

First, the picture. I really like this composition with the fountain dominating the foreground, but it looks like my angle was off and I didn't quite have SSE centered. I find that this area is so symmetric that if you miss your alignment by just a little things can go wrong quick. Oh well, I still like the image and there's always next time to get it right.

As for me, I have been sick for the past week. I was hoping to drive down and join everyone for a few days of the 40th gathering but after getting sick that wasn't going to happen. It looks like everyone had a great time, and maybe I can make the next meet up.

On the bright side, we'll be at Disneyland in exactly two months from today (12/10)!

I've said it before and will probably say it again, but France is one of my favorite pavilions. This image depicts one of the reasons why. At night and with just a few people around you really don't feel like you're in a theme park!
