The membrane keeping in all the organs is also containing the bloat. The Nutria may have been sitting in the sun for a few days. It's a bit squishy as you can see from me playing with it.

Seal-Skin Thimble

I had bought three seal-skin thimbles from Leroy at the Saturday Market for a slightly discounted price (3/$5). This was really my first chance to use them.

Back when I was working in Alaska at a village named Tununak, I was given a shovel to carry around so I slid it through one of the straps in my pack. Rubbing around it tore a small hole in my pack. After a month or so of walking around with it, the hole started to grow, so I finally had to do something about it. My uncle George is all about functional gifts and had given me this cool sewing kit. Perfect! It took me a little trial and error, but the pack finally got sewed back together. Now my avocados won't fall out anymore!

Pulling Further Up Shore

As we were draining the boat bigger waves came ashore. We had to push the boat up farther using the waves before we could drain it again. After draining the zodiac we tried to head out but the waves dowsed us and we had to drain the boat one more time.

Note Jordan's Xtra Tuffs. I had never seen these outside of Alaska.

The skating starts out a bit slow, the jammers are in the back pushing at each other a bit. The Anchorage jammer squeezes through at the far end of the ring but gets bumped out of bounds on her way toward us. On the second loop the Fairbanks jammer pulls ahead with the ref pointing at her. If she passes anyone on the Anchorage team after this point she gets points. If she gets knocked out of bounds, the process repeats all over again. Toward the end of the clip the Anchorage jammer pulls ahead but isn't eligible for points with any passing.

The score was 139 to 99, Anchorage, at the beginning of this clip but I believe Fairbanks scored some points during it and this may have been their streak where they almost caught up.

Woman Giving Birth

This is a hollow ceramic piece representing a woman from Nayarit who is in the act of giving birth. She is wearing ear spools, a looped nose ring ... and not much else.

On her knees she's about 3 feet tall, just a bit under life-size.

There's a tiny ice rink next to the Key Arena where they rent out walkers for the kids to practice skating on the torn-up ice.
