This Aurora 8 isn't traditional lace yarn, but I think it will work well as it has excellent stitch definition and I can easily see what I'm doing & tink back so I can fix mistakes. Behind the knitting is my magnetic chart holder, a clever thing I got from Knit Picks - all I have to do is print out my chart, place it on the magnetic holder & then move the bar magnets around so that I can tell exactly where I am in the chart as I knit. It's great for stranded knitting too!

A Couple Of Cabled Hats

Anna In NY posted a photo:

Here are a couple of the cabled hats I've been enjoying knitting. The pattern is essentially Basic Cable from Stitch N Bitch Nation, with a few changes:

I increased needle size to 10.5, with yarn to match.

I changed the brim to 12 rows of 2K 2P rib, as I like turnups.

The blue hat (knit in Unikat, a supersoft German merino with astonishing colours, which is sadly much too expensive for me to have bought more than one skein of) is sized to fit my 24 inch head and has 6 repeats of the 12 stitch cable and rib pattern, so I cast on 72.

The burgundy hat (knit in Karabella Marguerite Bulky) is being knit for my brother and has 7 repeats of the cable and rib pattern, so I cast on 84.

And each hat is longer (deeper?) than the pattern specifies, I knit each hat until it looks long enough before I start the decrease. Usually five or six cable twists will do it, but I'm not dogmatic about it.
