Even tough the concentration camp in Auschwitz is famous for this inscription, since Dachau was the first concentration camp, it also was the first one to welcome its "guests" with this motto.

I shot this one in the crematory of the concentration camp Dachau. In fact, this is one of the ovens the Nazis used to burn the corpses.
The dead body was slid into the oven on the bier you see on the photo. Then, to get the bier out, there was this stopper made of wood that made sure the body stayed inside. Then the doors were closed and the fire was ignited.
Once the body is completely burned the ashes are thrown into a hole in the ground. Mixed up with the ashes of hundreds of other victims.

Seeing photos of such a place of horror's impressive. Visiting it is totally harrowing.
As I left this place I was furious. How could human beings like me and you do this to a whole people? To totally innocent men, women and children?
