The 2-speeds on this bike are internal hub and alternated back and forth by quickly pedaling back then resuming forward motion. It's pretty easy to get the knack.

City Cyclery co-owner, Ron Drouillard, picked up this up as a "barn find" a few years ago and passed it along to me for a paltry sum knowing it would be in good hands. It was in very, very rough shape - many broken spokes, badly rusted and pitted fenders, rims, handlebars, etc., toobs and tires shot, missing tail light, and so on. I put many long hours into this special bike which commemorated Canada's Centennial and brought it to what you see here - not perfect but quite the looker. Decals include the 67 Centennial star logo familiar to most Canadians. Next phase is to get the rims trued by Mike Beauchamp and the chain serviced. Next year I might get the frame blasted, repainted, and the decals reproduced for a totally 'finished' look.

Either way it's ready for another 46+ years of service. Can't say that for too many consumer items made and sold these days.

OK. It ain't fancy. But it's a desperately needed bicycle shop "for the rest of us". Vintage and new-retro cruisers, leather saddles, accessories, etc.

Now "Holiday Beach Conservation Area"

Holiday Beach was originally a Provincial Park, opening in the summer of 1960 along with Rock Point and Turkey Point . Decommissioned ca. 1986, it is still owned by the province. ERCA has a management agreement with the province to run the park. Note "Department of Lands and Forests," which was superseded by the Ministry of Natural Resources in the early 1970s. This sign was found where the old superintendent's house stood and is currently affixed to an outbuilding in the maintenance compound.

In its heyday, visitors to Holiday Beach would line up at the gate to get in. Today it is a scaled back (and overlooked) sanctuary for a number of birders, hunters, seasonal campers, walkers, beach-go'ers, and other outdoorsy people.

Trek Allant. This has got to be the perfect "Everymans" bicycle. A bike for the rest of us. Great quality components all around and all the basic features for riding at a reasonable price point.
