I've had the pleasure of shooting many attractive/model/wife pictures over the last few years...but gotta say my most creative poser is Franky the dog.

After a recent (severe) haircut he realized he needed to dress up the place. Got the pillows and blankets just so...extending his range from posing to set design.

My first experiment using a small "grid" on my pop up flash.
I got to get down on the carpet with the Frank-ster, gently call his name, and hit the flash with the grid on pop up flash. Grid reduces light to a small circle...like shooting through a tunnel. The grid is a DIY (do it yourself) item.

For 2009 Franky says, "Make mine a double..."

Franky rests up before going off to "camp"...a special boarding home, where Franky gets to sleep in a real bed....just like at home.

About 5 years ago I earned enough money on a writing project to buy my first digital camera. It was a Nikon 5000 with a fabulous tilt screen, which I grew addicted to. Then 3 years ago, I knew my next camera would need to be an SLR with a tilt screen. All the sales people said an SLR could not be made with a tilt screen. I predicted it would emerge in 2007.

Then 6 months ago I heard that Olympus and maybe Panasonic would be coming out with a dSLR and tilt screen. Like a naughty kid who visits the whore houses-but only on the curbside--I logged into the DP Review Olympus forum and hungrily ate up all the gossip. I talked about the camera so much my wife and my dog begged me to leave home. Finally, Judy said, “Buy the d*!# thing and let it be. Franky just looked out the window.

So during Black Friday (shopping day after Thanksgiving) I plunked down a king's ransom, my right arm, and the remains of my pension in order to buy an Olympus E-3.

For two days, I've been lost in the techno-babble of the manual, fiddling with dials, learning the forbidden pleasures of the dSLR…and Franky just looked out the window…

But after the whirrring of the image stabilization motors and the slap of the mirror, Franky looked back long enough for me to catch this pose of utter boredom…

Now you know why I checked into the Betty Ford clinic for addicted slr camera users. I'm on step 10 in the recovery process where I make amends…this is my first amends…
