Standing in the Water

Summer Days - Those who have followed my stream for a while know that Summer Days is a long-running recurring theme. It's feeling like summer now, so I should post something to make my stream look summery. This fountain just opened this week, so scenes like this will be quite common over the next few months (though this particular scene is from 2008). Summer is my favourite time of year, and I take 90% or more of my pictures in the summer. I don't know how many I will actually post this year ... as one may guess from the number of pictures I have publicly viewable, I haven't exactly been enamoured with flickr lately .... and the new format makes me even less enamoured with it. It totally messes up my organization ... I had my pictures labeled so one could see on a quick glance what event or theme it was part of, and my collections were easily accessible on the right side of the first page if you wanted to go directly to my most interesting, or my sports photos, or my festival and event photos, etc. That organization has been totally messed up, and everything is now a big jumble. Good luck finding anything easily. I haven't left yet, and I haven't deleted anything ... my friends can still see all 11,000 or so of my pictures, jumbled as they are now. In any case, enjoy this summer scene :)

Summer Days Re-Re-Revisited - Spring is supposed to be only a week away, but it snowed, and it's really cold ... it would be cold for January, let alone March. So as usual when it gets cold and snowy here, here's another summer picture ;)

Summer Days Re-Revisited - Today is the coldest day of the winter thus far (-29C this morning) ... so I want to look forward to summer, by looking back at summer from the archive. Two boys in the same fountain, but in their own worlds, pay absolutely no attention to one another at the 2008 Cariwest Festival.

Winter Days - A few winter portraits, lest everyone gets the impression that I never go outside in the winter. Of course I go outside ... however it's not like the summer where there's some event or other going on at all times. Going out and shooting nothing going on is just not very interesting to me. There are some very cool winter events (sometimes quite literally), they're just fewer and farther between. Here are some pictures from some of them over the years. This boy was playing some street soccer on Family Day 2011. I would have preferred if he had been looking up, but he was looking down at the ball which he had. Street soccer of course is a version in which you use a soccer ball and try to score into a hockey net.

End of Summer Days - As tomorrow is the first day of autumn in the northern hemisphere, we have reached the official end of summer. All we can do now is watch it go ;)
