Call Paul

ChaD90_ posted a photo:

Saint Paul's Cathedral, London.

I know it's been done a million times but I couldn't help myself.

We went to St Paul's Cathedral first thing one morning after much debate whether we should go to St Paul's or Westminster Abby. There are so many amazing churches in Europe that you can't visit them all. I won and we went to St Paul's.
Which worked out perfect as I managed to talk our way in to an organ recital in Westminster Abbey for FREE! Once a sales man....

Anyway, St Paul's was amazing. We spent hours going through, up and around it. Sadly the lookout was closed, due to it being winter :(

My lovely wife spotted this scene with the phone booth and St Paul's in the back. I always wanted to do a B&W with red highlights for London and this was my first chance.

To make it more unique I tilted the camera (only way to fit it all in without a wider lens too) on the tripod (had to stick it in the small hedge to get the composition I wanted) and took 2 exposures and focus stacked them in PS. This gives the shot a lot more depth.

Two RAW exp tripod mounted. B&W conversion in Camera RAW, Focus stack, vignette, sharpen and border in PS CS5.

Feedback greatly appreciated.
Fav's MASSIVELY appreciated!
I'll make it to Explore one day............ one day, I swear :)

Nelson's Column, Trafalgar Square: Central London.

Just an example of the great weather we had in London in February this year. Yet again I stripped it of colour.

I was taking shots of Trafalgar Square when I spotted this Bag Pipe player. I loved the composition with Nelson's Column and the piper standing out. His shadow is my fav part.
You can just catch the Parliament Buildings in the background too.

Hope you like it.

Been really slow going through our Europe Honeymoon shots. We have been sorting our way through over 4000 wedding photos!(Our photographers and press shots too) Has been a lot of fun editing my own wedding photos, not my usual thing.
But going slow means I have more time to pick my favs :)

Parliament Buildings "Big Ben" and The London Eye.

Two for one London icons.

Believe it or not I actually took out colour from a London sky. It was a really nice soft blue this day. We actually had some warm days in London, snow fall too.

I decided to take out most of the colour on this one to highlight the gold details on the tower.

Just in case you didn't know "Big Ben" is actually the name of the bell in the tower, rather than the tower itself.

Well, I'm back.

I have to say I'm the luckiest person on Earth. I'm now married to the most amazing person in the world. Had the greatest one-of-a-kind wedding that was so much fun (check it out online if you want - GOOGLE: IKEA wedding Chad) and we topped it all off with the best Honeymoon!

We went to London, Monte Carlo, Paris, Bern (Switzerland), Venice, Rome, Florence and finished in Shanghai.

This shot was taken from one of the little towers at the entry to The Tower of London. We had a great guided tour with a very colourful Beefeater and learned a lot about it's bloody history. The crows kept here were bigger than most dogs these days.

I took three exposures to get the window just right and HDR'd it, then used the best single shot for the centre.

Lots more shots to come....

Our first time to Europe and we had a ball. Hit all the main sights and high-speed train'd around Europe.

First shot is from day 1-London. We figured the best way to start our London visit was to see the city from the river Thames.
This shot was taken from the back of the boat as we headed towards Greenwich.

Lots more shots to come....
Opera House Sunrise - HDR Panorama

It's amazing how when planning a overseas trip that I'm looking at the sights Sydney has to offer. It makes me happy to live here.
But bring on EUROPE!!

This is my fav pic from my first Sunrise shoot.
I'm sure you know the feeling, when you get to a location at just the right time and set up for your shot that it will turn out great. This was one of those moments. The sky was just lightening with colours just warming through.
Anyway HDR pano. Enjoy.

When the cruise started we had an overnight stay in Sydney, Circular Quay so I told myself I was getting up for the sunrise. It was so worth it. I figured I'd prob never get the chance to be 16 decks up in the Quay for sunrise.

4 x 3 exp HDR (12 shots total) tonemapped in Photomatix Pro. Photomerge, Topaz DeNoise, sharpen and border in PS CS5.
Deck Sunset - HDR

ChaD90_ posted a photo:

Just a couple more cruise shots to come. Hope you like them.

This is another sunset taken at sea when sailing away from Horbat. The mountains in the distance are the East coast of Tasmania.
There is a running track on the top deck to encourage guests to work off some of the great food consumed onboard. It's really popular at any time of the day.

I like the lines of this shot and even though there is crane center left, it just adds detail. I feel :)
Maybe I am taking too many HDR shots lately... anyway my honeymoon will give me a great chance to try a fresh approach.

Booking our Honeymoon at the moment. Europe!! Yay.
If anyone has any suggestions of must do things in London, Paris and Rome please let me know. :)

Another shot from our cruise. This shot was taken in beautiful Hobart, Tasmania.

I took this one at the main wharf where the cruise ship docked. Which serves as the base for Australia's Antarctic expeditions. The brightly coloured Snow vehicles really caught my eye and the dominating Mt Wellington filled the background nicely. You can catch a glimpse of some of the amazing old buildings that are all around town.

When we arrived it was when there were raging bush fires not far from Hobart and the cloudy sky was a welcome sight.

Another shot from our cruise, that now feels like it was years ago (was only 3 weeks ago though). Taken at sea near Tasmania.

It's funny how cruising is so relaxing that your sea days end up revolving around food, rest, activities and more food.

Booking our Honeymoon at the moment. Europe!! Yay.
If anyone has any suggestions of must do things in London, Paris and Rome please let me know. :)

It's THREE WEEKS from today!!!!
Going to be something special... and really different. Getting married at IKEA will be fun. 18 months planning will pay off.

Another shot from our 8 Day "Pre-wedding" cruise on board the Voyager of the Seas.
We needed the break... BAD.
What a huge ship. Holds 5000 people. 3600 passengers. Has a street inside with shops and bars, an iceskating rink, putt putt golf course, rock climbing wall and heaps more.

When the cruise started we had an overnight stay in Sydney, Circular Quay so we went for a walk late that night. I saw this shot and liked the comp. Hope you do too.

The first port of call for our cruise was Melbourne. We were so lucky to get a beautiful 30deg day as back in Sydney everyone was melting as the temps were creeping over 40! (106F)

We always have a great time in Melbourne. Hit the Queen Vic markets and sampled some amazing foods. Then hit the DFO on South Wharf for some retail therapy. Then walked around the city malls and had a great lunch in Chinatown.

Spotted this vibrant Vespa in front of a fun little shop, Clementine's, in one of those great little Melbourne alleys famous for coffee shops. Degraves Street I believe.
So Melbourne. Love it.

So hectic with wedding plans ATM!!

Just got back from a 8 Day cruise on board the Voyager of the Seas.
We needed the break... BAD.
What a huge ship. Holds 5000 people. 3600 passengers. Has a street inside with shops and bars, an iceskating rink, putt putt golf course, rock climbing wall and heaps more.

When the cruise started we had an overnight stay in Sydney, Circular Quay so I told myself I was getting up for the sunrise. It was so worth it. I figured I'd prob never get the chance to be 16 decks up in the Quay for sunrise.

My first Sunrise shoot. Hope you like it. More holiday shots to come from Melbourne and Hobart.

Hey people.
Merry (belated) Christmas.
I work in retail so that means very little free time in December. Add that to planning a wedding and trying to book a Honeymoon to Europe. Anyway... fresh photos. No macros!!!

Taken on my fiance's B'day after dinner. Had a great time and were very lucky the clouds cleared just for a moment to reveal some colour. We also got to see a huge cruise ship sail through the heads too.
Middle head is a great place. A disused base full of great forts and gun turrets.

Happiest New Year to everyone out there. Look after yourselves and have an awesome 2013.

Another shot from our cruise. This shot was taken in beautiful Hobart, Tasmania.

This shot was taken in Tricycle Cafe located in Salamanca Place. Salamanca Place is a stunning row of historic sandstone buildings near the water about a 15min walk from central Hobart. They have a world famous market there every Saturday (We were there Thur-Fri, bummer).

Was a great little café. Very busy, but worth the short wait. They use collector's spoons with their coffees instead of just plain spoons and it adds a little bit of variety and makes good conversation too. I got a Rolex spoon from Switzerland with my cappa and couldn't resist this shot.

Booking our Honeymoon at the moment. Europe!! Yay.
If anyone has any suggestions of must do things in London, Paris and Rome please let me know. :)
Rainbow Lorikeet

ChaD90_ posted a photo:

I was up on the NSW Central Coast over the weekend visiting a friend so naturally I took the D90 out for a much needed walk.

Saw several Rainbow Lorikeets nattering in a gumtree just as the sun was setting. Really colourful already but the warm light helped. Lovely birds, but really noisy as the light fades.

My bird pics have not been very popular so I'll try something new next.

Single RAW handheld. Crop, minor colour tweak, sharpen and border in PS CS5.

Feedback greatly appreciated.
Fav's MASSIVELY appreciated!
I'll make it to Explore one day............ one day, I swear :)
