A 'semi-HDR' as I have named it on my blog petehalewood.blogspot.com. This photo mixes elements of a single RAW image combined with an HDR picture taken from that single image.

Taken from the spectacular Mount of Olives, this gave a wonderful view of the Old City of Jerusalem.

This picture is more a combination of HDR and texture, than just texture itself. Although the picture in itself was good (and to most old school photographers, probably how they would say it should have been), I wanted to make it a bit more interesting and make it stand out a bit more. Creating an HDR (from a single RAW file), layer masking it with aspects of the original RAW image, and then gently blending in a texture, helped me get the look I was after with this scene.

So I'll ask the question if you already haven't - why am I posting this picture again, when I have already posted it before (December 2011)? Well after seeing this picture on various websites over the last few months and having printed it a couple of times for Liverpool fans, there was always something bothering me about it that I did not really pick up on when I first posted it. Although it is natural, there was too much darkness in the Kop area of the crowd where this picture is focused. On blogs such as my own one (petehalewood.blogspot.com) and Flickr it was not very noticeable, but as other people have used it for their blogs (which I do not mind at all) the dark areas seem to obscure the whole message of JFT96. This became apparent when I had it printed as well. I have long pondered tweaking this one to bring out the dark areas more, so it stands out better on websites and this is the result.

The original picture of this I posted several months ago is my most viewed picture on Flickr.

This is an HDR picture from 3 different exposures. Taken at the Liverpool v Norwich Premier League game on 22nd October 2011.

An HDR shot taken from 4 different exposures (-2,-1,0,+1). I thought about adding a texture to make the boring sky interesting but then decided to stay to the scene as it was. The point of the picture is about the pub, not the sky.

This came out of a project I have been given recently to take some pictures for postcards of Woolton Hill, which was the village I grew up in. The brief was to capture Woolton Hill in summertime and I was fortunately able to complete most of the pictures a few weeks ago when we had a heatwave. The brief sunny weather yesterday allowed me to complete the pictures I intended to get for this project.

An HDR picture taken from 3 shots and after a lot of painstaking work, merged with a texture from a rock that I also pictured from within the grounds of Hever Castle. In the final image I did think about going a bit lighter on the texture but then I lost the authentic historical look of the buildings, which I was not prepared to sacrifice, therefore I kept the strong texture look in.

Ok, so the title comes from a line in David Bowie's classic song 'Life on Mars?' which I don't really understand but if anyone does then please let me know! There's no real hidden meaning of the title on this website, I just couldn't think of anything else to call it.

This wasn't the easiest HDR to process because of the contrast in light between the foreground and background but I think the persistence has paid off. Layer masking certainly helped eradicate the movement of the cows between the different bracketed shots. It's an HDR from 3 different exposures (-3, -1, +1).

It's been a little while since my last addition to Flickr. Flickr is always the next place I post my pictures after my blog page (www.petehalewood.blogspot.com) and I suppose I do test the waters a bit with my blog to see if a picture is well received but that doesn't mean I would put anything on there that I was not happy with. I think though for every 3 or 4 pictures I post on my blog, I post 1 on Flickr.

This is Oxford's version of The Bridge of Sighs, though it bears similarities to both the Rialto bridge and the Bridge of sighs in Venice. I have posted a colour version of this bridge before, therefore wanted to create an HDR for this perspective that had more of a gritty and historical look to it and this was mainly achieved in Silver Efex Pro 2.

A 3 shot HDR of a scene I pictured back in January while out on my canal walk in Hungerford, Berkshire. There are lots of fields adjacent to the canal and I took a quick detour from picturing the sunset over the canal to picture this field that already started to gather the evening mist.

Today's picture is of perhaps one of the key advertising spots in London, if not the country, which of course is Piccadilly Circus. This was taken a little later than my previous Piccadilly picture a few weeks ago but is another attempt to capture the hustle and bustle of London at night. I know it's not perfect and if I could have captured more of the car speeding past at the bottom I would have, but until I purchase a full frame camera, I'll just have to work with the limitations of my D90!

A handheld HDR shot from 3 exposures. This is one of the first HDR pictures I have created by double tone mapping and merging the best bits from each. This was mainly to bring out the contrast and details in the sky while also bring out the best in the foreground.

A picture almost a year in the year making! It is the Church of Santa Fosca from the beautiful island of Torcello in the Venetian lagoon.

This is another shot though from my recent New Forest trip, more specifically, Barton-on-sea on the south coast of the New Forest. This was the place I had in mind when I planned the trip to the New Forest that day and though the sunset wasn't spectacular that evening in terms of colour, I did manage to capture the briefest appearance of the sun through the clouds with this shot. This was honestly the best it got, it's appearance lasted about 10 seconds.
