Angel Oak HDR

My last version of the Angel Oak is quite a bit more saturated but it is still my most popular picture by far. It was blogged on digg.com which was really when the popularity took off. This version was shot using the Nikkor 17-55 2.8f lens. I haven't done an HDR in awhile so I have been meaning to get to this. This is a 7 exposure HDR merge using Adobe Photoshop CS2 and I was striving to represent more realistic colors. I added "ghostly" figures to give a sense of scale.

"The Angel Oak is a Southern live oak tree located in Angel Oak Park, in Charleston, South Carolina on Johns Island, one of South Carolina's Sea Islands. It is estimated to be over 1400 years old, standing 20 m (65 feet) tall, 2.47 m in diameter, and the crown covers an area of 1,580 m² (17,000 square feet). Its longest limb is 27 m (89 feet) in length. The tree and surrounding park have been owned by the city of Charleston since 1991."

The first time I visited the Angel Oak I was amazed and unprepared but this time I used a tripod captured in RAW. This was processed using Nikon CaptureNX using color control points on the ground of leaves then I used Adobe Lightroom to increase the Recovery and export the final sRGB jpeg.

CaptureNX U-Point technology used on the foreground. My 18-200VR is @ Nikon for lens cleaning so its the 18-135mm kit lens for at least a couple weeks...

This is Dry Falls in North Carolina in an area known as "The Land of the Falls". Its a really kool area to trek through. Wish I had a stop down filter or something...

This was taken on the way to Newfoundland Gap via the Blue Ridge Parkway from Maggie Valley bypassing Cherokee Indian Resevation.

I have the sequence of shots of this airplane escaping from the storm. I wonder if the passengers saw the bolt of lightning outside their window.
