Tiny baby Ayaz, a one-year-old infant weighing less than 3kg (6.6lb), is being treated for severe acute malnutrition in a stabilization centre in southern Sindh. The 2010 monsoon floods have revealed the extent of the child malnutrition crisis in Pakistan, where one in five children under 5 in Sindh are suffering from acute malnutrition. Baragwanath Hospital is actually the largest in the Southern Hemisphere with 5,000 beds. The entire wall in front of the hospital is lined with a fantastic, continuous, long mural.

One year after the 2010 monsoon floods in Pakistan, hundreds of thousands of children under 5 have been screened and treated for acute malnutrition. This little girl is severely malnourished and is being treated in a UNICEF-supported malnutrition stabilization centre at the Layyah District Hospital.
