The Towhee is a ground bird, feeds off worms, insects...For some reason-maybe watching all the other birds hit this feeder-he
decided to check it out...
From the look on his face you
would think he was a kid getting
his first serving of spinach!

Today was one of those days to
languish on the deck and watch
the birds...little did I know when I snapped this male downy woodpecker, that the red headed
woodpecker was in the background...They were all very active today, feeding the babies
I am sure...

Ever notice that you can try and try to grow something in the best of condtions, and it just doesn't take? Then, in some gravelly place, up grows the most beautiful flower that the birds "planted"?

You hauled me all over creation and I didn't have a clue that you were teaching me-of new places but also new people, new cuisines, new music...
And also respect for these people and new ideas...Not only to be upset by some circumstances, but to care and give...
I think most moms must be this way...

No, not the Caddy Shack! lol but the Crab Shack...it backs up to the marshlands of the Savannah River...I love its rustic exterior but walk inside, and it is all clean, gleaming wood! Nothing fried here, just steamed and fresh!

Dad, can I borrow the keys to the car? NO!

I love watching a storm, and as this approached I could feel the kinetic energy building...and also the wind force growing-it wanted to topple me over like a tin can!
Off to other safer places soon after...the marine aquarium, which had some cool tanks...
From the balcony, I later watched the storm roll in...electrifying!

The Tybee Island Lighthouse was built in 1773...The bottom 60 feet are the original, which was burned by the Confederates during the Civil War in 1861. Since then, it was rebuilt adding the 85 feet...
Fueled by oil carried up in bronze "kettles", to prevent sparks causing a fire, it was
changed to electricity-run beacons in 1933. There are two
beacons, each 1000 watts...one beacon is run at all times...
Today, there are 178 narrow, steep steps leading to the top-believe me, I counted them all!
Wish I had a beautiful sky for background, but the truth is a storm was coming in...very gusty,
and it took about 30 seconds for it to whip off my cap into the wild blue yonder!

It was a crabby kinda day! But a good one! :-)

Most often, one sees a leg or part washed up...It caught my attention because it was whole...still, I thought it was dead? As I changed positions for another shot, it surprised me by
turning, throwing sand everywhere including my lens!
If he only knew I went to the Crab
Shack the following day for lunch!

This yellow rose (not a Peace rose but similar) is coming in strong now...They reach high and
tantalize each morning...my first view of the day...Satisfaction that it came back after a severe cut back! I call it the "Hope" rose, though that isn't it's name...It survived the winter and came back stronger than ever...and
I can identify with that!

A joy to wake up each morning to watch the sunrise and listen to the ocean's rhythmic waves...I did see the sun on the horizon but I took a few minutes to just enjoy it (and wake up!) before grabbing my camera...

These Caspian Terns and Black Skimmers were meeting for their
mating season...flocks in the hundreds and fascinating to see not only their numbers but to watch their ritual...They are in a protected area and I lucked out to get the timing right...

Once herds of these buffalo grazed and filled the territory in abundance...When the native indians brought one down, each bit was used for survival...Then
the furriers/hunters came for their
thick, warm skins and almost made them extinct...Thankfully
most herds are protected today...
Nature being nature however, the males can fight furiously...
This guy lost the battle, and lost
most of his horns...
Once he would have been left to
most likely perish, but someone cared, and today he lives peaceably...

So, word was that the turkeys were strutting and I was invited to a friend's property to photo the show...After hours one Tom
showed up...pick pick pick, and nothing pretty about this guy!
In desperation I used an electronic hen caller...brought
him closer but nothing...Again I
played the call...Suddenly his
head went up, and he started
to fluff up. Alas, when no Henrietta the Hen was to be found, he wobbled into the wood.
And it was Antonio who was the only thing moving!

As a little girl, Easters were always awesome, from my little floppy eared friend who never got potty-trained nor could distinguish my finger from a carrot, til later when I realised my parents were nourishing me toward thoughts more profound...I still hold both closely...
