Our hosts ran a small, private rodeo, including some bull riding. Being a complete city kid, I was a bit distressed at the event, but fascinated. This particular bull celebrated unseating the rider with some very aggressive behaviour; chased the clown around the ring, unseated a rider and nearly toppled her horse. More pics later when I figure out how to show the series. [gratitude 96/365]

I spent the past weekend at a ranch party; couldn't post from there. Absolutely no cell connection. Lots of pictures of rodeo stuff that I'm working through, but I couldn't resist these pups - especially those eerie blue eyes. They are some sort of herding breed. By the end of the weekend, most of them had homes with lots of acreage to run. Shooting through mesh fencing into their kennel. [gratitude 95/365]

Old Stone (Nancy) posted a photo:

I was seeking an alternate route for my walk this morning; a route that would take me away from traffic on the so-called "Greenway". As I was winding my way through residential streets I stumbled on the entry to a park I'd never visited before. It is a small park: Glenbrook Ravine Park. But, it has a lot of variety. At one end the a nicely designed and maintained garden complete with bridge, fountain, ponds and beds filled with flowers. (See the shot below) Then, as you walk north is turns into a quiet woodland path. Right now a number of different naturalized flowering plants are brightening the way. And, as a special treat, I met with the turtle enjoying a warm spot in the sun. [gratitude 79/365]

It turns out that this was the first public park in the Colony of British Columbia. You can find the history here. www.newwestpcr.ca/database/rte/files/Glenbrook%20Ravine%2...

Green, clean and safe public spaces are a real gift in our increasingly crowded concrete jungle homes. It is a miracle to have a flower filled meadow just a stone's throw away from Highway 1.

Another shot from my ramble through Hume Park yesterday. My much beloved English Daisies are in full bloom; thriving now that the parks aren't spraying for weeds. Couldn't resist getting really low to get a better angle. Again, more playing with my paint effects crayons.

I was craving some time somewhere green and peaceful, but didn't want to get into the car and drive to a park, nor did I have time for a really long walk. Then I remembered Hume Park; the perfect place for a short, restorative walk in the heat of the afternoon. (Playing with my paint effects crayon box today.)

For such a small city, New Westminster has a number of quite nice parks. Hume park is one little treasure. As well as the usual ball diamonds and play grounds it also has an intriguing little web of paths through the woods where one can enjoy being entirely sheltered from the urban view for awhile. [Gratitude 77/365]

I was trying for a picture of water flowing out of a tap. I got several, but this seemed the most fun. I used a flash and it froze the bubbles in the aerated flow coming from my kitchen tap. Who knew my tap water had all those bubbles!!

Getting back into the routine of searching for and making my gratitude image today. Not easy as I'm 9 time zones out-of-step, and a bit weary from yesterday's 19 hour trek home. However, having recently been in Malta, where "it is not recommended to drink the water", I'm noticing feeling very grateful for the ability to simply turn on the tap and have any amount of clean, safe and cheap water. So, for today, I'm grateful for our water. [Gratitude 73-365]

However, having recently been in Malta, where "it is not recommended to drink the water", I'm noticing feeling very grateful for the ability to simply turn on the tap and have any amount of clean, safe and cheap water. So, for today, I'm grateful for our water. [Gratitude 73-365]

I have an old cherry tree in my backyard, which I've loved since we first moved here. It's been ailing the past couple of years, and didn't flower much. It seems that the tender loving care has paid off; it is covered with buds this year, and a few are just starting to open. Being able to look out my window and enjoy this is quite a gift. [gratitude 52/365]
Taken with the 20X zoom of my nifty little Panasonic Lumix, through a window. Cameras are getting smarter and smarter.

I had a chance to spend some hours looking at and photographing the Marine Building, including a chance to get into the private suite at the top. It was a wonderful day. A few of the shots will appear over the next few days. This is the main entry. The detail is spectacular. Not easy to get the whole thing in one shot. It involves standing in traffic with a tripod. Always fun. Please click "L" to look at it large on black. [gratitude 46/365]

"Great Entrance - Seahorses and pufferfish still swim along outside the building between the second and third floors. Boats and ships move past, biplanes and a Zeppelin fly by. A train chugs past. It's one of the great entrances in Canada. Seventy-six years ago, when it was new and the colors were brighter, it must have been a dazzler." www.vancouverhistory.ca/archives_marine_building.htm
