The first major rain event of the spring here, supposed to last for a couple of days... At least it's not snow! LOL

Went downtown tonight to a poetry event, took a few photos before and after... There was a long lineup (in the rain) for an event at Flames Central...

Poppy Plaza

It does say Memorial here, but it's rather hard to photograph the whole word from any angle, being so close to traffic and the corner of the street...

There is still one small area of the plaza to complete before there is an official opening ceremony...

Poppy Plaza

One of the recently opened sections of Poppy Plaza here in Calgary... This tree represents the first of 3,278 trees planted along Memorial Drive, starting in May 11th, 1922, in memory of soldiers who died in WW1... Most of those trees were removed in recent years due to disease...

There is still one small area of the plaza to complete before there is an official opening ceremony...

And this tree is very difficult to photograph from this side of it, rather tall and elevated in the air...

One new Calgary plaza I've been looking forward to, they seem to be nearing completion of it with only a small section left...

It's a plaza designed to remind Calgarians why Memorial Drive has it's name, given to it between WW1 and WW2, to commemorate the memory of soldiers who died during WW1...

1956 Ford Fairlane Sunliner convertible, pressed into service for a wedding today... I talked to the owner while he was waiting for the wedding ceremony to finish... He said he owned a car just like this in 1960 (sold long ago), then last year had the opportunity to purchase one again... He isn't inclined to hang around the car show circuit so this might be my only chance to see it...
